Luxury living in River Run

August 25, 2009

River Run is such an attractive community that one resident, Debbie Archakis, "bought (her) house right on the scene."

Archakis, who is now general manager for the River Run Club, had perused some photos that her husband, already in Naperville, had sent her online while she was still living in her previous home in Reno, Nev. She said the community and the club were the two main draws when she moved to River Run in 2002.

Archakis admitted with a laugh that it was a gamble, but one that paid off dramatically in the long run.

With approximately 500 families, River Run is a neighborhood that offers luxury living in south Naperville. Residents are active in the neighborhood committees and are well-acquainted through children's sports leagues, parties and events at the River Run Club.

"They put on a pretty good Valentine's Day dance," said resident Peter Johnson.

Other appealing characteristics of River Run include its low crime, relative quiet and well-groomed lawns and gardens.

"I kid around that lawn maintenance is a competitive sport," Johnson added.

Places to visit

1. River Run Park , made up of three acres of land, is set adjacent to the River Run Club. Its amenities include a playground with multiple slides, swing sets and monkey bars, as well as a backstop for baseball, softball and kickball.

How to get there: Take Book Road south from 95th Street. Make a right on 104th Street to Clearwater Drive and hang a right. The park is on the left hand side at 4136 Clearwater Drive.

2. The River Run Club is a "private, social, recreational and fitness club," according to general manager Debbie Archakis. With amenities including both indoor and outdoor pools, exercise equipment and tennis courts, the River Run Club caters to its guests year-round. Residents interested in improving their skills can take professional tennis lessons and classes such as aerobics. In addition, River Run Club sponsors popular community social events in order to bring residents closer together.

How to get there: River Run Club is just south of the park at 4204 Clearwater Lane.

3. River Run Centre , developed by Bushnell Companies, is a retail professional and medical office center set just east of River Run. River Run Centre is located within a one-mile radius of more than 10,000 people, according to Bushnell. Its lots include the Goddard School for Early Childhood Development and S. Lewis Ltd., Certified Public Accountants. Other lots are available, according to Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.
