Stillwater claims best of both worlds
All the perks of a larger neighborhood but the familiarity of a smaller neighborhood distinguish Stillwater from many communities.

Elizabeth Pardo, a resident for only six months, recalls the day her neighbor welcomed her to the neighborhood with a treat. The two spent time talking and getting to know one another. Pardo said she felt it was reminiscent of past decades.
Likewise, Pardo's daughter had no problem making new friends in Stillwater.
"More and more kids are moving in," Pardo said. "It's a good, strong neighborhood."
Resident Shianne Gillespie, 17, moved to Stillwater 10 years ago.
"(Stillwater is) not as big as other subdivisions, so it's closer-knit," Gillespie said.

1. The Stillwater Swim & Tennis Club is one popular recreational destination for the residents of Stillwater. Boasting a zero-depth pool, an adjoining six-lane lap pool and four lighted tennis courts, the Stillwater Swim & Tennis Club played a factor in attracting residents such as Elizabeth Pardo, who moved to Stillwater just six
months ago. "I love the swim and tennis club," said Pardo, whose
daughter plays for the Stillwater Starz Swim Team.

The clubhouse is accessible by taking Route 59 south from 75th Street.
From there, make a left on 87th Street. The clubhouse's address is 2308
87th St.
2. What was previously the Fraley farm in west central
Naperville is now the Springbrook Golf Course, where, according to the
course's Web site, more than 40,000 rounds are played on the course
annually, most by residents. The golf course, next to Dragon Lake, was
built upon the 170-acre farm beginning in 1972. Now, Springbrook is an
18-hole championship golf course featuring many contemporary amenities,
including a 28-stall natural turf driving range, a golf shop, food
service and an outdoor patio.
How to get there: Springbrook
Golf Course, 2220 W. 83rd St., can be reached by taking 83th Street
east from Route 59. The course is west of Book Road.
3. Arlene
Welch Elementary School, part of District 204, serves residents of
Stillwater. The K through 5 elementary school had a 2008 enrollment of
833, according to the Interactive Illinois Report Card, and an average
of 10.5 years of experience for its teachers. The White Tigers have an
average class size ranging from 22.2 at the kindergarten level to 28.8
at grade 5, according to the Illinois School Profile: A Brief Guide For
Parents. The Illinois School Profile listed the school as having a 2008
attendance rate of 95.6.
How to get there: Arlene Welch Elementary School is located at 2620 Leverenz Road, east of Route 59.
