Should you ever find yourself in the unenviable position of occupying a police holding cell, chances are you'll want to be on your best behavior, at least until you're released. Unless, of course, you'd rather double your trouble by vandalizing the place. Naperville police say Jeffrey R. Dillavou chose the latter course of action and now faces trial on charges of residential burglary and criminal damage to property.

A lot of villains surfaced here Saturday at a protest held by We The People For Freedom on the steps of City Hall. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, high taxes, nationalized medicine, bailout packages, abortion, unions, politicians and even going green took their lumps by a variety of speakers for more than an hour.

Gov. Pat Quinn has fired a high-ranking employee who oversaw a state board that is the gatekeeper for hospital and other health-care construction projects throughout Illinois, a board that drew fire over its handling of a proposed Plainfield hospital project.

A young Westmont man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for his role in an aborted armed robbery last fall in the south-central part of Naperville. But Luis A. Martinez could avoid that fate should he successfully enroll in and complete an "impact incarceration program," a state boot camp for first-time criminal offenders.

Multiplatinum-selling alternative rock band Lifehouse will perform an outdoor concert in North Central Colleges Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on July 26. Lifehouse's hit "Hanging by a Moment," was named the Most Played Song of 2001 by Billboard magazine.

A glitch in the new computerized counting process has left festival officials unsure of how many people attended Ribfest Thursday night, but officials expect smooth sailing tonight.

DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba will seek a fourth term next year, he announced this week in a decision that will pit him against a former sheriff's deputy who already has declared he'll run in the 2010 Republican primary.

In order to address a harmful trend among teenagers, State Rep. Darlene Senger, R-Naperville, has filed legislation to prevent minors from "sexting," a term used to describe text messaging sexual pictures.

In an era of fewer co-workers and more work responsibilities, many workers are finding taking vacation a stressful experience. Staffing firm Randstad U.S. said 43 percent of respondents to its survey said preparing a boss and co-workers for one's absence is stressful, and 30 percent worry about giving up control of their responsibilities. And 77 percent of respondents label the first day back from vacation stressful.

Ray McLellan, a carillonneur from Michigan State University, will play a Summer Carillon Recital at 7 p.m. rain or shine at Naperville's Millennium Carillon.

Sara Evans, a country singer from Texas, was Friday's highlight performance on Ribfest's main stage.
