Recognition dinner

Citizens Appreciate Public Safety is hosting its annual Naperville Police Department Recognition dinner from 6 to 10 p.m. today to honor those police employees selected by members of the public as having providing exceptional service during the past year. Duck Race

The 19th annual Duck Race, co-sponsored by the Naperville Park District and REACH, will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Riverwalk by Rotary Hill. A table carnival begins at 10 a.m. at Rotary Hill and includes live entertainment, games and more. To sponsor a duck, register online or at the Park District administration building, 320 W. Plant sale

The Naperville Community Gardeners will host their annual plant sale from 7:30 a.m. Saturday to whenever the plants are gone, or by 3:30 p.m. The sale will take place in the gravel parking lot at the West Street Garden Plots, west of Naperville Central High School and Edward Hospital. Talk with community members who are active in gardening and receive free gardening advice. Visit www.napervillecommunitygardeners.org.

Historic trolley tours

In honor of Naperville's Community Heritage Month, Naperville Trolley & Tours is offering two historic trolley tours of Naperville at noon and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The one-hour tour meets at Jackson and Webster streets. The cost is $8 for children and $5 for adults. Reservations are required. Other May dates the historic trolley tour is being offered to celebrate Community Heritage Month include 11 a.m. May 16; 6 p.m. May 22 and 6 p.m. May 29. Sacred Circle

Flower bulb sale

The Naperville Park District will be selling tulip bulbs that were planted along the Riverwalk at 8 a.m. May 16 at the Riverwalk Pavilion, south of the Naperville Park District's Administrative Building parking lot, 320 W. Jackson Ave. The cost is $3 per dozen bulbs. Call 630-848-5000.

Shred Day

Homeowners Confederation

The Naperville Area Homeowners Confederation will meet at 8 a.m. May 17 in Meeting Rooms A, B and C of the Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. The meeting will focus on legal responsibilities and protection for individual homeowners and homeowners associations. The confederation also will elect officers and board members. Civil War Days

Civil War Days takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17 and 18 at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St. The entire 13-acre site is turned into a Civil War encampment with more than 300 re-enactors portraying the past. Beach opening
