Retirement community to hold bowling event
Monarch Landing retirement community in Naperville is hosting a Nintendo Wii video game bowling tournament fundraiser for two weekends in June. The tournament is open to all adults age 18 and over.
The tournament is a fundraiser for the Monarch Landing Benevolent Care Fund, which guarantees everyone who moves into Monarch Landing, at 2255 Erickson Drive, a "home for life."
"This is a great opportunity for local bowlers to test their skills using the Wii, which is an innovative gaming system," said Bill Kalnes of Monarch Landing, who is coordinating the tournament. "Bowling on the Wii is just like bowling in a real alley. All of your movements - hooks, speed, tendencies - are translated into the lanes and the results are amazingly similar."
The registration fee for each four-player team is $500, and each team is guaranteed at least six games. A minimum of eight teams are required in order for the tournament to take place, and no money will be collected until that requirement is met.
Single round eliminations will determine which teams advance to the next round. Each round will consist of three games, with the highest scoring team across all three games being named the winner. Losing teams from the first round will be placed in a consolation bracket, which will follow the same guidelines.
The team that wins the overall tournament will receive a cash prize of $1,000. Additional prizes will be given to the individual with the highest game score ($250); the individual with the highest three-game series score ($250); and the winning team in the consolation bracket ($500).
Practice times for all teams will be available prior to the start of the tournament. During the tournament, there will be a cash bar available, and all registered participants will receive two free drinks.
To register, contact Kalnes at 630-300-1234 or bkalnes@erickson.com. He will need to know your team name; players' names, and team captain contact information. Registration deadline is May 30.
