Trunk Show Sale
The DuPage Children's Museum Explorer Store's Manufacturers' Trunk Show Sale, taking place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, will offer an expanded selling area that includes the lower level of the museum. During this event, families have an opportunity to purchase special items in extended product lines not normally stocked in the store. Fashion show fundraiser
The Naperville Junior Woman's Club will host its 38th annual fashion show fundraiser beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bobak's Signature Events and Conference Center, 6440 Double Eagle Drive, Woodridge. This year's event theme of "Simply Elegant" will feature couture fashions and flowing gowns. Doors open at 10 a.m. for raffle prizes and silent auction bidding. Victorian Secrets
During Victorian Secrets, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, visitors can take a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Martin Mitchell Mansion, then peek into a traveling trunk as beauty and clothing secrets are revealed in the "Victorian Lady" presentation. Floral design sale
Just in time for holiday shopping, the Weed Ladies have added evening hours and additional days for their annual Winter Floral Design Sale held in the historic Daniels House at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St. Their sale, which features creative seasonal arrangements with silk and dried flowers, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Volunteer open house
The Naperville Park District will host a Holiday Volunteer Open House and Sign-Up Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center Lounge, 305 W. Jackson Ave. Many volunteers are needed to serve as Santa's elves at Santa House and to assist at other holiday events. The open house will begin with a brief presentation at 6 p.m., but volunteers may arrive at any time during the open house. Milky Way images
The public is invited to North Central College's Oesterle Library, 320 E. School St., from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday to view two large-scale, multi-wavelength images showing the core of the Milky Way Galaxy as viewed by the Hubble Space Telescope, the Chandra Space Telescope and the Spitzer X-Ray Observatory. KidsMatter benefit
People who shop at Whole Foods, at the intersection of Route 59 and 75th Street, on Wednesday and KidsMatter will receive 5 percent of their total purchase. Cannon rededication

Grand opening
The Community Career Center and Project H.E.L.P. (Healthy Environment For Little People) will celebrate the grand opening of their new shared 3,223-square-foot facility with an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at 1815 Diehl Road, Suite 100. Used computer sale
The Naperville Technology Group Inc. and student volunteers operating through a business partnership with District 203 have refurbished retired District 203 computers purchased by the Naperville Education Foundation with the intention to support students who are having challenges in school due to not having access to a computer at home. A special fund has been developed with the NEF through money raised from the sale of refurbished District 203 computers. Healing Field
The Naperville Exchange Club, in collaboration with the Naperville Park District, local veterans organizations and other community groups, families and individuals, are hosting the Naperville Healing Field of Honor in November. During the week of Nov. 8 to 14, Rotary Hill will be filled with 2,009 American flags as a way to say thank you to everyone who has ever served our country. Several other events such as patriotic carillon concerts and a special observance of Veterans Day at 11 a.m. Wednesday will also take place. Young Readers Week

Traffic management study
All interested parties are invited to attend a public meeting to view the preliminary recommendations of the South Downtown Traffic Management Study. The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 16 in Meeting Room A at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. Brief presentations of the findings, analysis and preliminary recommendations will begin at 6 and 7 p.m.
Park improvements open house
The Naperville Park District will host an open house for residents from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, at 305 W. Jackson Ave., to present various projects that are planned for 2010-2011. Locations that will be discussed include Columbia Commons, Eagle Park, East Greens Park, Kroehler Park, Pembroke Park, Springhill Greenway, West Greens, White Eagle Park, Willowgate Square and Wil-O-Way Park.
