Entrance closed for Nichols Library renovations

November 5, 2009

The Nichols Library upper level Jefferson Street entrance will be closed for replacement starting Monday, Nov. 9.

The new doors will offer greater security while maintaining full ADA compliance and the airlock entry will increase energy efficiency by lessening air infiltration.

Alternatives include:

• Using the Jackson Avenue entrance.

• Using either the Naper Boulevard Library, 2035 S. Naper Blvd. or 95th Street Library, 3015 Cedar Glade Drive.

• Using the Library Web site, www.naperville-lib.info to renew materials, seek information via our databases, http://www.naperville-lib.info/database/byCat.asp or to search the Library Catalog http://library.naperville-lib.org/.

The repairs and renovations on all three buildings incorporate many environmentally friendly elements including:

• A new lighting system for the upper level of Nichols Library that includes an energy efficient T5 fluorescent lighting system. "As natural light increases, sensors will turn off some of the artificial lamps to save energy," explains PHN Architect Andy Dogan. "The system continually monitors lighting levels to keep a consistent energy level and reduce energy costs at the same time."

• Occupancy sensors for lighting will reduce energy usage

• Water-saving plumbing features.

• Improved ventilation and air flow to lower heating and cooling costs.

• Healthy options for paint, carpeting, flooring and other materials; all with low volatile organic content. The rubber flooring and natural linoleum will prevent the off-gassing in traditional vinyl flooring. These materials are also more durable than those more traditionally used.

• Selection of Greenguard-certified furniture, the gold standard for environmentally friendly furnishings.
