Naper Settlement winter season

Naper Settlement begins its winter season Sunday. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is $4.25 for adults, $3.75 for seniors ages 62 and older and $3 for youth ages 4 through 17; admission includes an audio tour. The Pre-Emption House Visitor Center exhibits and galleries are open, but the buildings are closed. The Museum Store is open for shopping during regular museum hours with or without admission to Naper Settlement. The winter season runs through March 31. Lecture series

Professor Jeff Mishur of Art Excursions presents a slide lecture for the History Speaks Lecture Series, "City Beautiful: Celebrating the Burnham Plan Centennial," about architect Daniel Burnham's 1909 Plan of Chicago from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Naper Settlement's Century Memorial Chapel, 523 S. Webster St. Advance tickets are $6 for adults, and $5 for students, youth and Naperville Heritage Society sustaining members. Tickets at the door are $7 for adults and $6 for students and youth. Senior Fair

Take advantage of free vision screenings, learn more about identity theft or find out about community programs specifically designed for seniors at a Senior Fair hosted by state Reps. Michael Connelly (R-Naperville) and Darlene Senger (R-Naperville). The free Senior Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the Naperville Public Library, 3015 Cedar Glade Drive. It is open to the public and free refreshments will be served. There will be information about senior public transportation, driver's information, assisted living, insurance, safety and more. Additionally, attendees can find out whether they have any unclaimed assets with the Illinois Cash Dash program. Call 630-219-3090.

Holiday Showcase

The Hilton Lisle/Naperville will host a Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Holiday Showcase from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at its Lisle location, 3003 Corporate West Drive. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit Naperville-based Little Friends Inc. This unique showcase will feature a variety of food and wine tastings and holiday gift ideas. Tickets are available for $20, which includes a $5 donation to Little Friends. NJWC Fall Fashion Show

The Naperville Junior Woman's Club will host its 38th annual fashion show fundraiser beginning at 10 a.m. Nov. 7 at Bobak's Signature Events and Conference Center, 6440 Double Eagle Drive, Woodridge. This year's event theme of "Simply Elegant" will feature couture fashions and flowing gowns. Doors open at 10 a.m. for raffle prizes and silent auction bidding. Victorian Secrets

Trunk Show Sale

The DuPage Children's Museum Explorer Store's Manufacturers' Trunk Show Sale, taking place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 7 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 8, will offer an expanded selling area that includes the lower level of the museum. During this event, families have a unique opportunity to purchase special items in extended product lines not normally stocked in the store. Floral design sale

Just in time for holiday shopping, the Weed Ladies have added evening hours and additional days for their annual Winter Floral Design Sale held in the historic Daniels House at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St. The sale, which features creative seasonal arrangements with silk and dried flowers, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday; from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 6 and 7; and from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 8. Cannon rededication

Grand opening

The Community Career Center and Project H.E.L.P. Young Readers Week

Celebrate seven days of encouraging children to read at the Naperville Public Library during Young Readers Week. The theme of the celebration taking place Nov. 8 through Nov. 14 is "Pop Open a Good Book." All three library branches will host fun activities, games and crafts. Each day of the week, the library will also offer an interactive activity to promote early literacy skills. Children can enter the popular Guessing Jar Challenge and try their luck at a raffle prize. Beatles Rock Band tournament

Celebrate National Gaming Day at the Naperville Public Library with a "Beatles Rock Band" gaming tournament. Healing Field flags

The Naperville Exchange Club, in collaboration with the Naperville Park District, local veterans' organizations and other community groups, families and individuals, are hosting the Naperville Healing Field of Honor in November. Help fill Rotary Hill with 2,009 American flags during the week of Nov. 8 to 14 as a way to say thank you to everyone who has ever served our country while also raising money and awareness for a growing array of unmet needs for veterans and their families. Orders for individual three-foot by five-foot American flags with eight-foot poles are being taken at $30 each.
