July 14, 2005

1956: On May 10, a fire and explosion rocks the newspaper's

Washington Street offices. Still, the paper comes out the following day.


1959: On Labor Day, the body of 26-year-old Pan American Games athlete

Renaldo Duncan Arantes is found in Naperville. The murder remains

unsolved.


1963: November's last edition leads off with a photo of the post office

flagpole at half-staff and the reactions of Naperville schoolchildren

to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.


1964: Ora O'Donnell joins The Sun as one of the nation's first female sports editors.

    

1965: The Sun moves into new quarters at 9 W. Jackson Ave. Subscribers number 5,500.
