Celebrates joy of Virgin Mary's message

Benedictine University and St. Procopius Abbey invite the public to attend "Advent at the Abbey" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 12.

Speakers will include the Rev. Becket Franks of St. Procopius Abbey and Christine M. Fletcher, assistant professor of religious studies at Benedictine University. The theme of the event, which coincides with the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, is "Delighting in Virtue."

"In the middle of the Advent season, we pause to commemorate the appearance of the Virgin Mary in Mexico in 1531," Franks said.

The schedule includes arrival and coffee, a morning prayer, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, readings, Mass, lunch in the monastic refectory, a reflection, and a closing prayer and blessing.

Contact Franks at 630-829-9253 or e-mail bfranks@procopius.org. Space is limited. There is no fee, but a free offering will be taken.
