Schillerstrom wins straw poll

Bob Schillerstrom was the runaway winner of the Milton Township GOP Organization 2010 Straw Poll for Governor on Oct. 30, winning more than 50 percent of the vote in a field of seven candidates and solidifying suburban support in a region with more than 118,000 residents and 25,000 Republican voters.

The victory by Schillerstrom follows endorsements from eight of the nine DuPage County Township Republican Organization chairmen and 60 of the county's 72 township government officials.

Given a population of nearly 1 million residents and a strong Republican tradition, DuPage County is seen as a must-win for GOP candidates running for statewide office. In fact, Milton Township alone is home to 118,000 residents and is larger than 87 of 102 Illinois counties.
