Healthy debate

Twitter followers comment on health care

November 5, 2009

The health-care debate is raging in doctor's offices, at government committee meetings, over family dinners -- and on The Sun's Twitter page.

Partly spurred by our intensive series examining how the current health-care system works (or doesn't) for local residents, followers of The Sun on Twitter have been sharing their thoughts in the requisite 140 characters or less.

"I'd rather save the money I'm currently paying for health care (coverage) to pay off my higher education/loans," wrote @jeda_21.

The entire issue is being rushed, felt @MichaelEck. "1/6 of our total economy and only 72 hours to read and approve the health-care reform bill," he wrote.

For @JoeGinto, the numbers aren't adding up.

"(Obama) signed a $680 B defense appropriations bill," he wrote. "Contrast with $90 B/year proposed for health care. Do the math!"

Over on The Sun's Facebook page ( http://bit.ly/gaG0f ), our fans have been speaking their mind on a variety of different topics.

After we posted a link to our story about Beidelman Furniture, which has been in Naperville since 1861, a number of readers chimed in to say that they have pieces from Beidelman featured in their home.

And in the midst of the possible bus strike last month, parent Dana Benton Jacobson commented on our Facebook page that she was pleased with how her school was handling the situation.

"I was planning on driving them to school. We didn't have anyone we could carpool with," she said. "But Mary Lou Cowlishaw Elementary school had a plan set up by Friday for our students who ride the bus. They weren't taking chances."
