Learn about fitness for babies Thursday

Sovereign Pediatric Therapy, 1315 Macom Drive, Suite 103, Naperville, is hosting a seminar for parents and caregivers of children younger than one year of age from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday on "Baby Fitness; Developing the Foundations for Childhood Athletic Performance." Jo Briceno, pediatric physical therapist, will present the seminar.

Because many infants and young children spend a considerable amount of time in infant seats, infant swings and baby walkers, they often miss many of the sensory and motor experiences that provide the foundation for the development and motor (or movement) skills, which are the foundation for refined coordination and athletic performance in the childhood years. This presentation will provide simple, practical suggestions on ways to facilitate the development of your baby's motor skills. This event is free. Call 630-585-7337 to register.

Magazine ranks CDH one of the top U.S. hospitals

U.S. News & World Report announced online recently that Central DuPage Hospital of Winfield has been listed as one of its top 17 hospitals in the nation for both nursing care and patient satisfaction, according to a press release.

To determine the top hospitals nationwide, U.S. News evaluates the quality of care in almost 5,000 U.S. hospitals. The resulting list of 174 America's Best Hospitals were named by U.S. News earlier this year. The publication then ranked the top 10 percent of the finalist hospitals by evaluating patient survey results. Both lists are posted online at www.usnews.com. CDH is the only Chicago-area hospital to be ranked on both lists.

CDH has been named to U.S. News' America's Best Hospitals in orthopedics since 2007 and has also been recognized nationally as a Thomson-Reuters 100 Top Hospital for the past three years. In 2008, Advance for Nurses magazine awarded the hospital's team of advanced practice nurses its Best Nurses Team award. "We honestly don't strive to win awards," said CDH President and CEO Luke McGuinness. "We commit ourselves to excellent patient care and the awards follow."
