That's a spicy ... pickle

November 6, 2009

For GO

Fresh-made sandwiches and salads are the highlight of the menu at the Spicy Pickle, a new eatery on Naperville's northwest side.

"Everything we have is fresh," manager Deb Jamicek said of the Spicy Pickle, which opened in late July. "It doesn't come out of a can."

Sandwich options include eight hot-pressed paninis and seven subs. The South Side panini, for example, includes roast beef, pepperoncini, lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, cheddar cheese and horseradish mayo. A Wise Guy sub comes loaded with capocolla, mortadella, hard salami, lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, roasted red peppers, pepperoncini, provolone cheese and basil mayo.

Customers can also build their own sandwich from a large selection of meats, vegetables, cheeses and toppings.

Jamicek said a lot of customers choose to create their own sandwiches, but she likes it when customers order from the menu because she knows how good they are.

"I know if you order off the menu, you will not be disappointed," she said.

The Spicy Pickle also has six entrée-sized salads, including Caesar, Greek and spinach salads, and five soups. Loaded baked potato is the most popular soup offering, Jamicek said. Other choices are corn and green chile bisque and chicken noodle.

All sandwiches and entrée salads are $6.95. Soup is $3 for a small or $3.50 for a large. The Spicy Pickle also has a kid's meal for $3.75 that includes a child-sized sandwich, chips and a drink.

Jamicek said the Spicy Pickle has seating for about 50. Most business is dine-in, but customers can also take their orders to go or call them in. The restaurant does deliver, but only to customers who are very near the restaurant.
