Wagner Farms waves a seasonal goodbye
Wagner Farms, the farm stand at 9937 S. Route 59, will be closing for the season at 4 p.m. Saturday.
The farm stand will be open until 6 p.m. every day until the 31st.
"Business this year was good, even though the corn and tomato season got off to a late start with the unusually cool temperatures," said owner Pam White. "People in this area are really trying to buy locally and are appreciating the freshness we offer."
The Wagner family has been farming this land since 1961. During the off season, they plant the crop for next year, service their equipment and attend trade shows and seminars to find out what's new.
Things start up in early March, and the farm stand will reopen in early July of 2010.

"The store opened many years ago ... but it converted from Baskin Robbins to KaleidoScoops a few years ago," said Boyd E. Harris, president of KaleidoScoops. "The store owner claims the rent was just too high for him to justify staying in business, and to move it would have cost him more than he had. Very sad day."
Each KaleidoScoops parlor is owned by a co-op member who operates the shop to reflect the owner's individuality and locality. KaleidoScoops sells a full array of rich, delicious ice cream, as well as sherbets, smoothies, ice cream cakes and more.
You can still satisfy your sweet tooth at 62 locations in 20 states.

This is due to issues with its lease, but it has plans to return in the spring. Until then, its customers can still get Fan C service and deals at their stores in Schaumburg, at 1073 N. Salem Drive, or in Glenview, at 1498 Waukegan Road.
Fan C Fans is a family-owned business that began over 75 years ago in Chicago under the name A-Abart Electric Inc. The business has evolved into one specializing in ceiling fans, and the name Fan C Fans seemed best to convey that concept.
"We want to thank our Naperville customers for their loyal support over the years and look forward to a continued relationship with our return next spring," said president Craig Malik.
