Seventeen rib vendors decorated their Ribfest booths with trophies
and posters from past rib cook-offs, but only one was able to add first place for best ribs in 2008 to its collection. Sweet Baby Ray's from Wood Dale took home the first-place trophy for best ribs and second place for best sauce.

Ribfest's rib vendors may be reluctant to divulge all of the secrets to their barbecuing success, but, catch them before the crowds hit, and they'll gladly share the stories of how they got their starts.

Painted lady
It's been said that the house on Jefferson Avenue near Nichols Library was painted purple with yellow and orange starbursts because the city of Naperville told the owners, Jennifer and Patrick Berthold, that those colors would not be allowed. That is not true. The truth is that the house is a reflection of the owners' love of Victorian homes and color.
