Benedictine player honored again

November 6, 2009

Benedictine University volleyball standout Kayla Leyden picked up her third award Nov. 2 as the Northern Athletics Conference's (NAC) Student-Athlete of the Week after leading her team to a 2-2 mark last week.

Over the weekend, the Eagles team placed third in its own tournament.

In the Eagle Classic, Leyden continued her string of accolades, as she was again selected to the all-tournament team (with a unanimous vote). In all four tournaments entered by her team this season, Leyden has earned all-tournament honors at each.

In the four matches for Benedictine at the Classic, Leyden averaged 4.71 kills and 4.56 digs per set played (14 in all). She served up three aces and had two blocks, as well. Her high match in kills over the weekend was 19 in the sweep of Grinnell College, followed by 18 in the three-set win over Monmouth College. She had 15 kills in the loss to North Central and another 14 in the setback to Wheaton.

Leyden also had double-digit dig totals in every match, giving her 26 matches with double-doubles in kills-assists for the season overall.
