Pumpkins are a lot like poinsettias. The day after the holiday, it's time for them to disappear. Even if pumpkins were not carved and do fit into Thanksgiving decorations, I vote pumpkins should be cut up for pie the first week in November.

Photo studios keep Lisle residents in focus
During the late '50s, Lisle had a thriving, one-sided Main Street (a house and fields of peonies on the other side). Haverlandt's was the only place to have photographs developed. Haverlandt's was a fairly serious camera shop (from a kid's perspective) with shelves of cameras and fancy lenses, under the watchful eye of Mr. Haverlandt.

Downtown flowers get loving care
All summer long, the flower boxes on our deck were watered, dead-headed and preened like pets. However, after a few cold nights, our attention turns inside the house, changing the silk flower arrangements for fall, pulling out the afghans and bringing in firewood. Autumnal nesting I believe it's called.
