Goats no excuse for this ex-Cubs' pitcher
Dr. Rich Nye is used to tight jams. He was a steady pitcher for the late '60s Cubs who faced big cats like Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. But on a slow moving summer morning, the 6-foot-5 southpaw is removing an abscess near the ear of a turtle. Nye is one of the premier exotic animal veterinarians in America.

Lisle marketing firm teams up with Peapod
The online grocery company Peapod announced in late June that customers in the DuPage County area will soon enjoy additional savings, thanks to a partnership with the Lisle-based Concept Shopping. An official at the local personal marketing firm says they'll help customers to save by changing their "couponing" to target their customers better.

Farmers may reap benefits from flood woes
Will County farmers may be poised to reap the harvest of downstate crop woes. "We don't like to think of profiting from others' misfortunes, but sometimes to get the prices up, somebody else has to suffer at the other end," said Mark Schneidewind, with the Will County Farm Bureau.
