Women's health fair offers variety of services
Silver Cross Hospital and Lincoln Way East High School's senior anatomy and physiology class are sponsoring the annual health fair for women from 8:30 a.m. to noon May 17 in the Field House at Lincoln Way East High School, 201 Colorado Ave., Frankfort.

If it takes a village to raise a child, how many children does it take to make a village? Twenty-three -- if they're the children in Linda Eddy's second-grade class at Mokena Elementary School.

Tantalizing taste test
The culinary arts students at Joliet Junior College have been designing menus, cooking and serving them all semester at the Chef's Table. On April 28, for the students under chef Kyle Richardson, more was riding on the lunch they prepared than usual -- it was their final exam.

Local woman organizes first Pet Expo
Although she's hosted seven child-themed expos, Caroline O'Connell, publisher of Family Time Magazine in Frankfort, did extensive homework on pet expos before deciding to launch her first one on May 10.

A man and his duck
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and rides shotgun in a truck with a diaper securely fastened, it really is the bird. During his morning errands, Ed Kanive's diaper-clad duck, Ellie, rides in the front seat of his pickup, enjoying the sights and a bit of preening perched on the truck's dashboard.

Showcase features district's creative side
The Frankfort Children's Museum was one of many local organizations and artists that contributed their talents to the annual Frankfort School District 157-C Creative Arts Showcase held Friday at Grand Prairie Elementary School. The event was hosted by the district's Family School Partnership.

Church walls become community art gallery
If art is a window to the soul, then it seems fitting that church walls would make an appropriate gallery. If anyone peeks in the windows of the Missio Dei Church office on Front Street in downtown Mokena, they will see the talents of local artists on display.

Show celebrates spring
More than 150 Manhattan residents attended the GFWC Manhattan Woman's Club spring event, "Bouquets of Friendship," with scents of the coming flower season filling the air.
