One hurt, family displaced in Lemont home blaze

October 28, 2009

A male was hospitalized and a family displaced when a fire started in their Lemont home on Oct. 18.

Emergency crews responded at 9:08 a.m. to a residential fire at a tri-story home in the first block of West Eureka Avenue in Lemont, Lemont Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Dave Slivinski said.

A male resident was taken with smoke inhalation to a local hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, the battalion chief said. The victim's age was not being released.

The fire was controlled in about 15 minutes, but the home sustained "significant" interior damage, Slivinski said. Most of the fire damage was to the lower level, while the upper floors sustained "moderate" smoke damage.

The home is uninhabitable and the family will be displaced, Slivinski said.

Cause of the fire remained under investigation, according to the battalion chief, who could not yet say if the blaze was suspicious.
