Larry Coppola took in a deep breath on Wednesday morning before he released the air brakes and shifted the 18-wheeler out of park. Coppola was just two days away from taking his final exam for his commercial driver's license. The Frankfort resident is one of two students to sign up for the first Truck Driving School class offered by Joliet Junior College at its Weitendorf Agricultural Education Facility.

The 2010 primary is mostly over and everything went pretty well. As usual, Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots and her capable staff had things humming. The polls opened and closed, right as rain. The votes were counted by 9:30 p.m., so the winners and losers knew the score before last call at the bar. Was that enough?



Lemont defends state cheerleading title
Lemont High School's cheerleading squad captured its second straight state title Feb. 6. It won the Medium Division at the state finals held at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.

Lockport rally ends up short
Kyle Ward finished with a game-high 21 points, but it wasn't enough. The Porters tried to rally from an 18-point deficit midway through the fourth quarter, but they fell short in a 49-45 loss to Sandburg in the Southwest Suburban Blue.

Jackson's doctor pleads not guilty to manslaughter
Michael Jackson’s doctor has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of the pop star. Dr. Conrad Murray, a Houston cardiologist who was with Jackson when he died June 25, entered his plea Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court just hours after he was charged. He could face up to four years in prison if convicted. Murray was charged early Monday, capping an exhaustive investigation into the pop star's stunning death last summer.
