Get your workspace organized

November 4, 2009

Well, it looks as though the time to start hibernation is upon us. We may have a few more days of sun but we will pretty much be held hostage by our lovely Chicago weather. With that in mind, I decided it might be time to spruce up the home office and while I was at it find some pieces to personalize the workplace too.

I went to Home Goods, Target and Kohl's in Lemont on Archer Avenue.

Target has a new line of office furniture that is inexpensive. This desk is only $69.99. There are shelves on the sides for storage. (1)

Another option is the more traditional desk with a middle drawer. This is also only $69.99. (2) There are matching three- and five-shelf bookcases that are on sale for $16 and $26 respectively. (3, 4) And you might as well get a new desk chair while you're at it since this leather, adjustable office chair is only $59.99. (5)

To add some personal touches to your space, I looked around Kohl's. Whether you are in a traditional office setting or not, your space should be a pleasant environment that shows some of your personality. We spend so much time at work, it should be tailored for you. This cork, chalk and dry erase white board is on clearance for only $19.99. It was $49.99. (6) A fun lamp can really liven up your space. This only is $19.99. (7)

Home Goods has a large selection of office accessories. This leather desk organizer is $9.99. (8) This initial would really define the owner of the space. It's cloth covered with brown fabric with polka dots and it's $5.99 compared to $12 elsewhere. (9)

The next item is a red magazine or file holder. It's $9.99. There are also matching accessories like the pencil/clip holder shown here. That costs $4.99. (10)

I really liked this cork board in a white decorated frame. It's $19.99 instead of the $40 you'd pay somewhere else. (11) The clothespin note holder is only $5.99. (12)

And the last item for anyone's desk is this clip holder with a hand with crossed fingers that acts as the top. Inside there is a message that reads, "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." Don't we all need a little encouragement at work every once in a while? (13,14)
