Entirely different game Bad new for future opponents of the Lockport High School baseball team: The lull seems to have ended. Two days after failing to execute in a costly 6-2 SouthWest Suburban Blue loss to Joliet Township, Lockport turned the tables on the Steelmen 11-1 in five innings Saturday at Ed Flink Field.


PFC tops Porters PLAINFIELD -- With the 9th street bridge being shutdown, the commute from Lockport to Plainfield will take a lot longer for the next 4 months.


Wexter passes big test L-Way C. senior wins sectional pole vault PLAINFIELD -- With most of the pole vault competitors finished at the Class AA Plainfield Central Sectional on Friday, Lincoln-Way Central's senior Jenna Wexter still had her warm-ups on, waiting for the bar to get higher while cheering on teammate Brenna Marron.


Frantini's bat boosts Minooka over PFC

JOLIET -- Minooka High School scored 3 runs in the top of the eighth inning Saturday to beat Plainfield Central 8-5 in Southwest Prairie Conference play at Silver Cross Field.

BENSENVILLE -- The Plainfield South High School softball team easily won the Fenton Tournament championship on Saturday.

FLOSSMOOR -- The girls water polo teams from Lincoln-Way East and Homewood-Flossmoor High Schools had split 6-5 decisions this year so it only made sense that they'd have another 6-5 game in Saturday's Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional finals.

Lyons-sized effort nets a title Lockport's Megan Lyons found herself in an all-or-nothing situation. Jenna Wexter made a decision to save a little something extra for a big weekend trip to Charleston. Lyons needed a personal-record jump to vault into first place at the Plainfield Central Sectional to qualify for the Class AA state meet.


L-Way takes second Lincoln-Way's gymnastics team had high hopes that it could capture its second state championship in the past three years. But a talented York squad had other ideas as it defeated Lincoln-Way 163.7-161.1 for the title in the state finals.


Lincoln-Way C. tied for first place Entering this weekend's state badminton tournament, both Lincoln-Way Central and Lockport High Schools were optimistic about their chances for a medal as each team had six girls qualify. After the first day of play Friday, Lincoln-Way Central's hopes may move up from just a medal to one of a certain color -- gold.


Blaine does it all for Coal City

JOLIET -- If asked if he enjoys playing at Silver Cross Field, Coal City High School's J.T. Blaine would probably respond, "Yes."


Shimkus, Lockport tame Sandburg LOCKPORT -- Allison Shimkus, who has been Lockport High School's third pitcher for most of the season, held Sandburg in check Friday and the Porters prevailed over the top-ranked team in the Chicago area 3-1 in SouthWest Suburban Blue play.

It's a North Side story Chester Bryant spent the week leading up to the Southwest Prairie Conference boys track and field meet working out getting out of the blocks quicker. Then, he put on a new white-hot racing suit and blasted past his Plainfield North High School teammate and friend Dominique Ware to win the 100 meters.


It's Lockport by a Hir in SWS Blue Things could not have been any closer in Thursday's SouthWest Suburban Blue Conference high school boys track and field meet. Lockport and Bolingbrook battled it out for top honors before the championship was decided in the final event.

Schrader, Plainfield S. down Minooka MINOOKA -- Alyssa Schrader threw a 4-hit shutout Thursday to lead Plainfield South High School to a 2-0 victory over Minooka in Southwest Prairie Conference play.


Minooka turns SPC tables on Plainfield N. MINOOKA -- A 9-run third inning Thursday propelled Minooka High School to a 13-6 victory over Plainfield North in Southwest Prairie Conference play.

Coal City's Howard stars as JJC leadoff man Brandon Howard may not be the prototypical leadoff hitter for a baseball team. The former Coal City High School outfielder/pitcher doesn't walk much, but he hits for power. That has led to an outstanding season for Howard, which in turn has paid dividends for Joliet Junior College.


A very good Knight Coach Joann Holverson got a little emotional before the start of Wednesday's boys volleyball match. As Lincoln-Way Central honored the 10 seniors on its team on senior night, Holverson reflected on the importance that this group has had to her program.


L-Way gym team guns for state title

Dan Hutton got to experience the feeling of winning both individual state championships and a team state title during his sophomore season in 2006.

PLAINFIELD -- Senior right-hander Brittany Adcox threw a no-hitter and struck out 12 in Plainfield Central High School's 4-0 victory over Plainfield North in Southwest Prairie Conference play on Monday. Adcox is 12-1.

FLOSSMOOR -- A.J. Woynerowski turned in a quality start and Bryan Smith provided the offense.


Plainfield North tops Plainfield Central PLAINFIELD -- The Plainfield North High School baseball team collected 15 hits in a 17-8 win over Plainfield Central in Southwest Prairie Conference play on Monday.


Lewis gets No. 2 seed in Great Lakes Region

ROMEOVILLE -- The No. 7 Lewis University softball team was selected as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Great Lakes Region tournament Wednesday-Saturday on the campus of top-seeded Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Knights volleyball standouts moving on NEW LENOX -- Lincoln-Way Central High School has sent a number of girls volleyball players to the college ranks during recent years.


Onto the next stage for Lockport standouts Nikko Carson, Greg Gonsoulin, Nolan Scott and Chris Wilson all were standouts on the football field for Lockport High School during the past two years. Now that group gets the opportunity to compete in the sport at the next level.

Plainfield N. blitzes Morris in soccer Plainfield North High School’s girls soccer team scored 6 goals in the first 16:00 on Monday. That quick rush pushed the Tigers to an 8-0 win over Morris in Southwest Prairie Conference play.


Plainfield Central’s Adcox tosses no-hitter Brittany Adcox was unhittable on Monday. Adcox, a senior right-hander, threw a no-hitter and struck out 12 to help Plainfiield Central High School beat Plainfield North 4-0 in Southwest Prairie Conference play. Adcox is 12-1.


North crushes Central in crosstown baseball Plainfield North High School collected 15 base hits on Monday. That offensive barrage led North to a 17-8 win over Plainfield Central in Southwest Prairie Conference play.


Porters on the move LOCKPORT -- A testament to the type of senior female athletes who competed at Lockport this season was very evident at last Wednesday's college signing ceremony at the school.
