CHARLESTON -- It was a day of seconds for the Lincoln-Way Central High School badminton team on Saturday.
The Knights finished tied for second in the state meet,and Kelly Byar finished second in the individual competition.
Hinsdale Central won the team title with 14.0 points, while Lincoln-Way Central and Hinsdale South were tied for second with 12.0.
Byar entered the meet with a 52-1 record and won all three of her matches Friday to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinal match, she beat Melissa Chang of Naperville North 21-13, 18-21, 21-8 before disposing of Fremd's Jenna Langhorst 21-19, 21-14 in the semis.
In the title match, Byar fell to Hinsdale Central's Karishma Kollipara 21-13, 21-10 to finish the season with a 57-2 record.
Only one other area player to play Saturday was Lincoln-Way East's Carrie Miarecki. Miarecki lost to Naperville North's Stephanie Chang 21-10, 18-21, 21-17 in the quarterfinals, then defeated West Aurora's Lauren Henry 14-21, 22-20, 21-15 in the consolation quarterfinals. She ended her day with a 21-14, 21-15 loss to Wheeling's Ashley Lepcin in the consolation semifinals.
