JOLIET -- Minooka High School scored 3 runs in the top of the eighth inning Saturday to beat Plainfield Central 8-5 in Southwest Prairie Conference play at Silver Cross Field.
Senior catcher Brett Frantini paced the Indians (22-8-1, 16-3).Frantini was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and RBI. Mike Foltynewicz was 3-for-3 with a double and 1 RBI. Brian Martin had 3 hits and 1 RBI.
Foltynewicz (8-4) was the winner in relief. The right-hander pitched 1 2/3 innings, struck out 2, walked none and allowed no earned runs. Starter Tony Bucciferro whiffed 4 and yielded 7 hits in 6 1/3 innings.
For Plainfield Central (9-17, 8-11), Tim Meyer (double, RBI), Alex Park (double, RBI) and Mike Fiala had 2 hits.
The Indians host the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Plainfield North 15, Bremen 0 (6 innings) -- At Midlothian, winner Sam Cashman pitched a 3-hit shutout. He struck out 2 and walked 1. John Monge had 4 hits (double), 3 runs and 2 RBIs to power the Tigers (17-8) to the nonconference rout. Aundre Pace had 2 hits (double, 2 RBIs) and Mike Gislain produced a hit and 2 RBIs.
Providence Catholic 3, De La Salle 2 -- At Chicago, winner Casey Webber (5-2) pitched 5 innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 earned run and struck out 6. Phil Trowbridge got the save. He allowed no runs.
Jay Modelski and Joe Salecki had 2 hits for the Celtics (16-12-1, 6-8) in the Catholic League Blue win. Greg Bennett contributed a run-producing single.
Lincoln-Way Central 10, Argo 6 -- At Summit, Tom Helwich had 3 hits and 2 RBIs in the nonconference win for the knights (7-15). Tim Gindville had 2 hits and 4 RBIs. Sean Miller got the win and Eric Marquardt the save.
JCA 19-4, Marist 4-12 -- At Chicago, the Hilltoppers (23-5, 13-3) had a season-high 22 hits in the first East Suburban Catholic Conference game. Mike Nelson collected 4 hits and 2 RBIs. Nick Ratajczak (triple, 2 RBIs), Tim Bennett (2 RBIs) and Brian Budzinski (2 RBIs) had 3 hits. Nate Minarich (2 RBIs) had 2 hits. Brock Liston (3-0) pitched 3 2/3 innings to pick up the victory.
In Game 2, Nelson had 3 hits and an RBI. David Cladis collected 2 hits.
Coal City 6, Morris 3 -- At Morris, J.T. Blaine's 2-run single in the sixth inning broke a tie and helped the Coalers (16-11) to the nonconference win. Ryan Verdun had 3 hits for Coal City while Taylor Olson, Joel Lardi and Dylan Hakey had 2 hits.
Colt Smith (5-3) went the distance for the victory. He allowed 5 hits, struck out 7 and walked 2.
Driscoll 5-8, Reed-Custer 0-1 -- At Addison, the Comets (16-15) had 3 first-game hits. Alex King, Andrew Molloy and Chris Robinson singled. In Game 2, Molloy, Chris Tidmore and Robinson had the lone hits for Reed-Custer. Grant Van Haelst got the Game 1 loss and Robinson absorbed the Game 2 defeat.
