PFN soccer routs E. Aurora

PLAINFIELD -- It was a nice way for Plainfield North High School to begin play in its own Class AA regional soccer tournament.

North had no difficulty Friday en route to beating East Aurora 8-0 in the Class AA Plainfield North Regional. The win advances the Tigers (10-8-1) to a 5 p.m. Wednesday regional semifinal game against Waubonsie Valley, the defending state champions.

Emily Baker scored 2 goals and Kayleigh Blaney contributed a goal and 2 assists for North. Jenna Humphrey made 1 save for her ninth shutout.

Girls soccer
Romeoville 5, East Aurora 1 -- At Romeoville, Anna Mayo and Vicky Arreola scored twice for the Spartans in the nonconference win. Delaney Goddard tallied 1 goal. Marribel Barrera made 6 saves for the win.
Girls track
Reed-Custer wins -- At the Class A Seneca Sectional, the Comets won the 16-team championship with 104 points. Seneca was second with 84.

Reed-Custer senior Jerilyn Mandac won two events, capturing the 100 hurdles (15.9) and 300 hurdles (47.3). The Comets' 3200 relay won in 10:13.5 and their 800 relay won in 1:49.5. Kelsi McMahan won the shot put (34-9).

Mandac also advances to the state meet in Charleston with a second-place finish in the 200 (27.137). The Comets' Julia Strouse finished second in the 400 (1:04.3) to qualify for state.

Other area winners included Coal City's Megan Petty in the 800 (2:29.2), Dwight's 1600 relay (4:15.17), Wilmington's Sarah Gans in the discus (110-9), Seneca's Thomasino Lovett in the high jump (4-10), Seneca's Candice Carajohn on the triple jump (34-8 3/4) and Dwight's Kolby Hoffman in the long jump (17-6 3/4).

Boys track
Lincoln-Way East 2nd -- At the SouthWest Suburban Red meet, the Griffins were second among five teams with 125 points. East's Nick Neuman won two events, taking first places in the 100 (10.5) and 200 (21.5). Other East firsts came from Myles Scott-Stirn in the 1600 (4:28.8), Nathan Troester in the 3200 (9:38.7) and the 3200 relay (8:17.7).

Lincoln-Way Central winners were Jeremy Kaplan in the long jump (22-4) and Zack Chesley in the pole vault (13-9).

Reed-Custer wins -- At the Interstate Eight Conference meet, the Comets set school records in three events en route to winning the 12-team championship with 127 points. Reed-Custer's Judah Wessman set a school record of 1:59.5 by winning the 800. Teammate Mike Redmann won the discus with a throw of 152-4, also a school mark. The Comets' 3200 relay was third in a school-record time of 8:46.3.

Reed-Custer's Mike Eller won three events, taking firsts in the 200 (22.4), pole vault (13-6) and long jump (21-9ΒΌ). Jason Baker won the shot put (49-6).

Coal City's 400 relay of Scott McLuckie, Eric Grunbauer, Dan Martin and Jeff Kause won in 44.93.

Golf
Hole-in-one -- At Inwood, Joliet's Judy Powell aced the par-3 12th hole. She used a wedge. Witnesses werer Pat Reger, Katie Mores and Kay Foreman.
