MINOOKA -- Alyssa Schrader threw a 4-hit shutout Thursday to lead Plainfield South High School to a 2-0 victory over Minooka in Southwest Prairie Conference play.
Schrader struck out 5 and walked 1 for the Cougars (17-5, 12-2), who scored runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
South's Mary Giancarlo had 2 hits with a double. Kendall Weber doubled, Schrader tripled and Alexis Alvarez singled in a run.
For Minooka (14-10-1, 8-4), Kely Chesnut struck out 3, yielded 6 hits and walked none. She took the loss. Kristi Lenz whiffed 2 in a scoreless seventh.
Leah Roman, Taylor Johnson, Andrea Carlson, Chesnut and Elyse Wright all singled for Minooka.
In the eighth, Taylor Tooley walked, stole second, went to third on an overthrow and raced home on Julia Fink's double. Olivia Scott singled home Fink during the 3-run rally.
Kirkpatrick and Tooley had 2 hits for the Wildcats (22-2, 12-0). Winner Brittany Adcox (13-1) allowed 2 hits and struck out 10.
Coal City 2, Gardner-South Wilmington 0 -- At Gardner, the Coalers (21-0) remained unbeaten with the nonconference win over the Panthers. Sophomore winner Kirsten Verdun (8-0) threw a 2-hitter, striking out 10 and walking 3. Shelby McGlasson had 2 hits, including a 2-run triple in the fifth.
Romeoville 10, Oswego 3 -- At Romeoville, Sarah Prehn (5-8) pitched the Southwest Prairie Conference triumph for the Spartans (6-13, 4-8). Amy Flores delivered a triple, 2 singles and 4 RBIs. Courtney Cole drove in 3 runs and Mary Caron doubled in a run.
Peotone 13, Lisle 0 -- At Lisle, Jackie Ryan (15-5) threw a 7-inning no-hitter with 15 strikeouts and 2 walks in the Interstate Eight victory. Brianna Haag went 5-for-5 for the Blue Devils (17-8-1, 10-5).
Tinley Park 3, Lemont 0 -- At Tinley Park, Hayley Bridwell had both hits for the Indians (15-7, 10-4) in the South Suburban Blue loss. Lemont pitcher Kirsten Luevano (15-7) gave upt 5 hits, struck out 5 and walked 1.
Bishop McNamara 4, Wilmington 3 -- At Kankakee, Tiffany Tutor had 2 hits and an RBI for the Wildcats (10-14) in the nonconference defeat. Stephanie Ozak singled home 2 runs.
Sandwich 2, Dwight 1 -- At Sandwich, Stephanie Humbert took the Interstate Eight Conference loss for the Trojans (20-5, 10-5). Humbert whiffed 13, allowed 1 hit and walked 2.
Marian Catholic 1, Providence Catholic 0 -- At Chicago Heights, Marian Catholic (19-5, 11-3) scored the only run in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game on a passed ball in the sixth inning. Emily Perish took the loss for the Celtics (19-9, 13-3).
