MINOOKA -- A 9-run third inning Thursday propelled Minooka High School to a 13-6 victory over Plainfield North in Southwest Prairie Conference play.
The Indians (21-7-1, 15-3) scored 4 in the first inning against North (16-8, 12-6), which beat Minooka 5-2 on Wednesday.
Minooka sophomore DH Mike Foltynewicz had 3 hits, including a double, and 2 RBIs. Brian Papp finished with 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Jon VanAsdlen and Justin Troyner (2 hits) had 2 RBIs. Bryan Wellner and Brett Frantini added 2 hits.
Brian Barnes pitched the first 4 1/3 innings for the Indians. Troyner pitched 1 2/3 innings and Mike Targonski threw the final inning.
For North, Mike Klett (4-1) was saddled with the loss, despite Andrew Starks' 2-for-4 effort with a double and a triple. Also for North, Mike Gislain and Steve Bledsoe combined for 4 hits and 4 RBIs.
Morris 4, Oswego 3 (9 innings) -- At Morris, David Balzer had the game-winning suicide squeeze bunt for the Redskisn (11-15, 7-11) in the Southwest Prairie Conference win.
With the game tied at 3-3, Mike Henry singled. Nick Sweeney moved Henry over with a sacrifice bunt, leaving runners on the corners after a Kyle Balzer single. David Balzer then laid down his game-winning suicide squeeze.
Winner Justin Porter (2-0) threw 2 hitless innings with 2 strikeouts.
Lemont 14, Bremen 4 -- At Lemont, winner Greg Mrozek (1-2) went the distance for the Indians (11-13, 8-6) in the South Suburban Blue win. Mrozek allowed 2 hits with 5 strikeouts.
Ed Salinas was 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Ryan Ferry and Ben Wagner contributed 2 hits and RBIs.
Plainfield Central 7, Romeoville 6 (8 innings) -- At Romeoville, Mike Fiala (double, 2 RBIs) and Creighton Goss had 2 hits for the Wildcats (9-16, 8-10) in the Southwest Prairie Conference game.
Winner Tim Meyer (5-1) threw 2 innings. He allowed no earned runs, 2 hits, struck out 2 and walked 1.
Romeoville tied the game 6-6 with 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Gardner-South Wilmington 2, Coal City 0 -- At Gardner, the Coalers fell in the nonconference game. Ryan Verdun had 4 hits for the Coalers. Jesse Gregurich and Colt Smith added hits.
Coal City pitcher Joe Lardi (14-11) struck out 10 and allowed 4 hits.
