Scouting Report

4A semifinals: Bolingbrook (27-3) vs. Marist (25-8)

Tipoff: Tonight, 6:30, at Illinois State University's Redbird Arena.

Coaches: Bolingbrook's Tony Smith is 193-21 in seven years, all at Bolingbrook. Marist's Mary Pat Connolly is 145-57 in seven years, the past six at Marist. Smith is assisted by Carter Larry, Evan Bercot, Clarence Simmons, Matt Monken and Melanie Ploger.

Bolingbrook's probable starting lineup: Senior Janisha Gearlds at point guard, freshman Ariel Massengale at shooting guard, junior Satavia Taylor at small forward, sophomore Nicosia Henry at power forward and sophomore Chanyere Hosey at center.

Marist's probably starting lineup: Sophomore Haley Stercic and seniors Aileen Gorman and Lauren Niemiera at guard, junior Cailee Corcoran at forward and senior Maureen Mulchrone at center.

When Bolingbrook has the ball: The Raiders don't possess the taller, thicker, muscular post like in past seasons with Chloe Kerr, Lauren Martens or Shantina Boyd, so they prefer the uptempo, running plan. Smaller but athletic, the Raiders' fastbreak takes its cue from Gearlds, with Massengale as the main finisher. Henry, however, also capitalizes on layups, and Taylor is the two-way threat as a shooter and putback artist.

When Marist has the ball: Until the sectional, the RedHawks were a go-get-them, 60-point scoring team. In the past three games, they have scored 45, 43 and 48 points. Mulchrone (14.9 points, 6.9 boards) owns the block, with Stercic (12.1 points) and Niemiera (11.8 points) offering strong supplementary scoring. Stercic's 3-pointers and Corcorcan's gritty work on the glass have been as important as Mulchrone's magic.

Bolingbrook's X-factor: Gearlds. She stirs the pot to Massengale.

Marist's X-factor: Mulchrone. She makes the RedHawks roll.

Bill Scheibe's prediction: Bolingbrook 57, Marist 45.
