PEORIA -- The Joliet area's heaviest representation in the state high school cross country meets at Detweiller Park was in the Class 3A races, and area boys and girls made good showings in both.
The Lockport boys led the way with a 12th-place finish on 357 points. Plainfield South scored 393 and was 15th and Minooka totaled 516 for 25th.
Neuqua Valley claimed the state title with 99 points, followed by Loyola at 111. Sandburg sophomore Lukas Verzbicas, who was at Lincoln-Way Central as a freshman, won the individual title in 14:07.
Lockport was led by junior Dave Sajdak's 44th place in 15:14. He was followed by junior Joe Oldendorf, 49th in 15:17. Senior David Inczauskis was 94th, junior Ryan Mitsos was 125th and sophomore Thomas Razo 144th.
Plainfield South senior Jake Ferris led the Cougars' effort with a 16th place in 14:52 that earned him all-state acclaim. Senior Nick Maher was 89th, junior Alex Deeter 114th sophomore Tyler ryan 139th and sophomore Kyle Ryan 143rd.
Minooka junior Joe McAsey finished 83rd. Indians sophomore Kyle Smith was 123rd, followed by sophomore Ben Heide 136th, freshman Joey Santillo 151st and senior Sean Coyle 157th.
Romeoville senior Sergio Miranda was the Joliet area's other all-stater in the 3A boys race. He ran a 14:52 to finish 14th.
Plainfield North junior Andrew Sandoval was 98th in 15:46, Lincoln-Way Central junior Kyle Counter was 106th, Lincoln-Way East sophomore Tom Rotondi 182ndLincoln-Way North senior Matt Niendorf 197th.
In the 3A girls race, Lockport finished 17th with 413 points, Minooka 23rd with 577 and Lincoln-Way East 24th with 660. Palatine won with 99 points and Sandburg was second with 142. The individual winner was Whitney Young senior Lavinia Jurkiewicz in 17:11.
The Lockport effort was led by sophomore Megan O'Brien's sparkling fifth place, easily an all-state race. Her time was 17:21, about 10 seconds off the winning pace.
Otherwise, the Porters had sophomore Samantha Stanley 115th, sophomore Stephanie Sanders 134th, senior Stephanie Houts 149th and freshman Courtney Correa 152nd.
The top Minooka finisher was junior Maddie Simon in 92nd. Sophomore Kiley Saunders was 146th, junior Allie Rossi 161st, senior Alex Szymanski 166th freshman Laura Simon 185th.
Lincoln-Way East counted senior Catriona McClowry 158th, junior Tessa Lighty 162nd, senior Britney Kravish 169th, sophomore Nicole Nepote 177th and junior Kasey Zaremba 179th.
Lincoln-Way North senior Joran Wallace finished 52nd.
Lemont was in Class 2A, but two area individuals ran strong races. Lincoln-Way West junior Monica Hahn earned all-state honors with her 13th place in 18:20, and JCA sophomore Rachel Sartori was 31st in 19:04.
Lemont was led by sophomore Amber Trick's 84th place. Freshman Wendy Mazur was 94th, senior Meagan Johnson 124th, senior Katie Kester 141st and senior Mariah Belinski 144th.
Springfield won that race with 124 points to Yorkville's 130. Woodstock's Kayla Beattie won individually in 17:14.
