PLAINFIELD -- Plainfield South jumped to a 27-0 halftime lead over district rival Plainfield East on Friday night and cruised to a 41-6 win.

Dondre Adams scored on a 23-yard run to start the scoring with 2:32 left in the first quarter for the Cougars. It capped a 2-play, 50-yard drive which Adams began with a 27-yard burst.

Jeff Kohl caught a 36-yard pass from Austin Howarth with 5:46 left in the second quarter.

Alexander Flores then caught a 24-yard pass from Howarth, capping a 3-play, 43-yard drive. Adams added the conversion run to make it 21-0. With 2:02 left, Adams scored on a 68-yard run to cap the first-half scoring. The drive was set up by an interception by Breien Ever.

Adams, coming off an injury suffered in last week's game against Oswego, had 14 carries for 221 yards in the first half alone.

South limited East to negative-19 yards rushing before halftime, but the Bengals did pick up 71 yards in the air.

In the third quarter, Adams went 29 yards for his third touchdown. It was his last carry of the night as he finished with 250 yards and 3 TDs.

With 6:44 left in the third quarter, Darrell Collins went 65 yards to cap the South scoring.

At the 10:35 mark of the fourh quarter, Christian Fries scored from 5 yards out for East.

"We worked hard this week," South coach Mike Briscoe said. "We changed some of our personnel. We have ne w people on the field at different positions, but they worked hard to keep going. We will do what we need to do to win.

"We are looking at every game -- like this one -- as a playoff game. We know we have to go 6-3 to make the playoffs.

"I thought we came out well tonight. Adams coming back was big for us. He's a a playmaker and he really adds a lot."

"We were able to get a couple of early turnovers, but then we turned it over and lost any momentum." East coach Shane Trager said. "We have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot and looking over our shoulder waiting for something bad to happen.

"I was proud that we didn't quit and played hard all the way through, but we still have to do the things that will make us win."

East's Fries had 100 receiving yards on 7 catches. Brad Goffinet was 11-of-22 for 141 yards.
