MINOOKA -- It as a good Saturday for the Minooka High School cross country teams.
The Indians placed second in both the girls and boys competition in the 35th annual Minooka Invitational.
Minooka's girls were second behind East Peoria (7 points) with 25 points. The Indians' boys were second with 19 points. Conant won the boys crown with 14 points.
There were seven flights with runners from each school competing in each flight.
"Our girls had a solid showing and competed very hard, as did the boys," Minooka coach Kevin Gummerson said. "This format, with the seven flights, increased the importance of each of each runner. They realized that fact and ran tremendously well.
"We are proud of their effort."
In the girls' race, Plainfield North's Desiree Salb was fourth in the championship flight with a time of 19:32 (three miles), while Providence Catholic's Allie Heniff placed fifth (19:40), Minooka's Rachael Williams was seventh (20:04) and Morris' Kelly Schwanter was 11th (20:58).
Minooka's Maggie Raynor was second in the second flight with a time of 19:27. Plainfield North's Callie O'Donnell was fifth (20:26), Morris' Molly Connon ninth (21:04) and Providence's Maddie Schmidt 16th (24:54).
Plainfield North's Taryn Seeland was third in the third flight (19:53), Minooka's Rachel Morman fifth (20:06), Morris' Kim Johnson ninth (22:03) and Providence's Maeve McCartin 13th (23:28).
In the fourth flight, Minooka's Kaitlin Hoy finished second (19:38), Plainfield Noth's Katie Ready was sixth (21:03), providence's Andi Heniff ninth (22:46) and Morris' Anna Burbank 11th (23:01).
The Indians' Lizz Celmer was fourth in the fifth flight with a time of 21:17. Morris' Mallory Runion was 10th (23:17), Plainfield North's Anissa Hernandez 11th (23:42) and Providence's Julianne Johnson 14th (24:57).
Minooka's Maddie Simon placed second in the sixth flight in 20:04. Plainfield North's Alex Osborne was fifth (20:40), Morris' Amanda Robbins sixth (21:14) and Providence's Patricia Bonaguro ninth (21:28).
In the seventh flight, Minooka's Nicole Johnson was second (20:34), Providence's Courtney Cleveland fourth (20:51), Plainfield North's Giana Lilas fifth (21:07) and Morris' Maddy Pfaff 11th (23:03).
Plainfield North's girls were fifth with 39 pionts, Morris placed ninth with 67 and Providence took 11th with 70.
Plainfield North's Andrew Karas was second in the boys championship flight with a time of 15:32. Minooka's Josh Keck was third (15:58), Providence's Dave Hansen 11th (17:08), Morris' Heath Hougas 13th (18:02 and Lockport's Roy Adcock 14th (18:05).
In the second flight, Minooka's Sean Coyle was third (16:06), Plainfield North's Andrew Sandoval seventh (16:52), Providence's Kevin Ryan 13th (18:09), Lockport's Chris Formosa 14th (18:10) and Morris' John Strange 15th (18:14).
The Indians' Kyle Smith was third in the third flight with a time of 16:07. Plainfield North's Austin Stone was seventh (16:59), Providence's Mike Shaw 13th (18:49), Lockport's Steve Strunka 14th (18:50) and Morris' Logan Simpson 15th (19:18).
Minooka's Julian Hoshell took third (16:26) in the fourth flight, Plainfield North's Luke Berndl was ninth (17:28), Lockport's Maritn Lesniak 12th (18:28), Providence's Sam Joutras 13th (18:32) and Morris' Chris Gallic 17th (21:01).
Minooka's Ryan Kelley won the fifth flighti n 16:35. Plainfield North's Mike Meridith was seventh (17:17), Providence's Krish Ramadurai 12th (18:42), Lockport's Joe Kus 13th (18:49) and Morris' Trevor Boers Jr. 15th (19:47).
The Indians' Joeie Ruettiger was third in the sixth flight (16:56), Plainfield North's Josh Le seventh (17:16), Lockport's Alex Hardenbrook 12th (18:51), Providence's Alec Logothetis 13th (19:53) and Morris' Nathaniel Hunnewell 17th (22:33).
In the seventh flight, Minooka's Ben Heide was third (16:57), Plainfield North's Dan Woolidge ninth (18:10), Lockport's Brenden Hehl 12th (19:45), Providence's Chris Pelech 13th (20:29) and Morris' Ryley Steele 17th (22:37).
Lincoln-Way East 7th -- At the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational, the Griffins placed seventh among 42 teams with 258 points. East's Maggie Sutor was 43rd with a time of 18:54. Laura Beggs was 51st (19:01). JCA's Tara Bistry placed 50th with a time of 19:01.
Joliet Township was 59th. Taking 21st was Brett Scheuber (15:34), Jared Morrissette placed 140th (16:54) and Mike Oldham was 258th (18:01).
JCA was 45th with 1,211 points. The Hilltoppers' Ryan Tully was 204th (17:34), Nick Ludwig finished 220th (17:36) and Brett Rocheleau placed 232nd (17:45).
Joliet Township 1, Plainfield South 0 -- Ulises Ornelas scored for the Steelmen (7-2) in the nonconference victory. Mike Vertin made 4 saves for his 18th career shutout. Warren 3, Lincoln-Way East 1 -- At Warren, Robgbie McGowan scored for East (5-6) in the nonconference setback.
Elgin South 9, Minooka 0 -- At Minooka, Andy Pieczynski made 6 saves for the Indians (1-9) in the nonconference loss.
Providence takes 1st -- At the Naperville Central Invitational at Naperbrook, the Celtics had 32 points (297 score) in the four-team field. Providence junior Ryan Monahan was medalist with a 4-under-par 68. Evan Berna was fifth with a 75, Gabe Aprati placed eighth with a 77, Jeremy Lackey shot a 77.
Lockport wins -- The Porters shot a 303, to top Lemont (317), Glenbard South (326) and Illiana Christian (334). Scores for the Porters included Ryan Frederick (74), Jake Cooper (75), Anthony Lodovico (79) and Pat Wendling (80).
Lemont was led by Kevin McMahon's 79. Rob Smieciak had an 80, while Kyle Cyr and Jimmy Loukota fired 83s.
Providence plced eighth with a 434. Celeste Bern shot a 96, Kelsey Utter had a 104.
Minooka was ninth (448) as Amanda Cappel had a 101.
Lemont was 10th with a 464. Regan Menconi shot a 97.
Lincoln-Way East's 363 earned the Griffins a fourth place in the Gold Division. Kathy Sterling shot an 82 and Julie Radgowski had an 83.
Lockport was sixth (370). Carly Shapiro shot an 84 and Krystal Garritson an 88.
Lincoln-Way Central's Stephanie Delrose finished with a 93 as the Knights were 12th with a 412.
Lockport's Alica Tyson-Patterson placed second at No. 2 singles. Finishing second for the Porters were Alysa Vorel-Lindsay Polke at No. 1 doubles and Abigail Plecka-Krissy Kozak at No. 2 doubles.
St. Ignatius won with 28 points.
