Gill gives Plainfield C. lift over Minooka

MINOOKA -- Tyler Gill scored 2 goals and Giovanni DeLira recorded his third shutout Monday as Plainfield Central High School beat Minooka 4-0 in Southwest Prairie Conference boys soccer action.

Jon Rosenbaum and Czar Zeman also scored for the Wildcats (5-3, 2-0). Logan Spidle had 2 assists and Jesse Rodriguez added 1.

Andy Pieczynski made 8 saves for Minooka (1-8, 1-1).

"Restarts were the name of this game," Minooka coach Jason Boe said. "Plainfield Central executed properly on four of their restarts to beat us."

Boys soccer
Oswego 3, Plainfield South 0 -- At Joliet, Wociech Gacek made 14 saves for the Cougars (3-5-0, 1-2-0) in the Southwest Prairie Conference defeat.

Oswego East 5, Romeoville 1 -- At Oswego, Sergio Miranda scored the lone goal for the Spartans (1-6, 0-2) in the Southwest Prairie Conference loss.

Other scores -- Peotone 5, Coal City 0.

Boys golf
Lincoln-Way East 154, Lincoln-Way Central 173 -- Brian Bullington and Jay Bushen shot 38s for the Griffins (4-1). Shane McGowan and Adam Sajewich had 39s. For Central, Rick Palonis had a 40 and Ryan Carney fired a 42. Mark Patrick shot a 45 and Jerry Lombardo turned in a 46.

JCA 164, Notre Dame 172 -- At Mission Hills Country Club, Alex Fried shot a 39 to earn medalist honors. Dan Klipsch carded a 40 for the Hilltoppers (8-2, 3-1) in the East Suburban Catholic Conference win. Also scoring for JCA were Ian O'Connor (42) and Jimmy Goode (43).

Lemont 168, Shepard 178 -- At Glen Eagles, Kevin McMahon shot a 41 to pace the Indians (6-0, 4-0) to the South Suburban Blue victory. Jim Loukota shot a 42, Rob Smierciak had a 42 and Nick Szerzinski fired a 43.

Girls golf
Lockport 186, Lincoln-Way North 217 -- At Woodbine, pacing the Porters (5-1) was Carly Shapiro with a 43. Others scoring were Allie Burek (46), Krystal Garritson (48) and Megan Alano (49).

Lincoln-Way East 182, Sandburg 209 -- At Green Garden Gold, Kathy Sterling's 39 led the Griffins to the Southwest Suburban Conference victory. Julia Radgowski had a 44, Paige Pollak shot a 49 and Lizz Keller turned in a 50.

Lemont 209, Tinley Park 251 -- At Cog Hill No. 3, Regan Menconi was medalist with a 47. Taylor Dunn shot a 53 for the Indians (5-3) in the nonconference win. Also scoring for Lemont were Lisa Paloian (55) and Ashley Brandt (54).

Andrew 152, Joliet Township 154 -- At the Rolling Hills par-3 course, JT senior Kali Hale was medalist with a 1-over-par 30. Also scoring for the Steelmen (5-3) in the Southwest Suburban crossover loss were Samantha Wagner (39), Bridgette Manley (42) and Courtney Smith (43).

Minooka 220, Romeoville 272 -- At Heritage Bluffs, Amanda Cappel's 50 led Minooka to the Southwest Prairie victory. Jordan King had a 55, Megan O'Connell shot a 57, while Krystal Paramo and Sam Gewalt fired 58s. Romeoville's Dallyce Wallace shot a 63 and Verenise Alvarez had a 65. Lynn Samuelson shot a 71, while Brittany Guzman and Christina Gonzalez shot 73s.

Boys cross country
Plainfield South wins -- At Dellwood Park, Plainfield South had 15, Romeoville 65 and the Plainfield East junior varsity 112. South junior Jake Ferris won the race in a time of 16:55. Other placers for the Cougars were Nick Maher (2nd, 17:45), Tyler Ryan (3rd, 17:46), Kyle Ryan (4th, 17:47) and Mike Maki (5th, 17:48).

Minooka wins -- The Indians had 26, Plainfield North 39 and Oswego 56. Minooka's Josh Keck won the three-mile race in a time of 15:58. Also Placing for the Indians were Sean Coyle (5th, 16:36), Julian Hoshell (6th, 16:43), Ryan Kelley (8th, 16:58) and Joeie Ruettiger (9th, 17:01).

Plainfield Central wins 2 -- The Wildcats beat Morris 15-50 and defeated Oswego East 19-40. Plainfield finishers were John Lullo (1st, 17:17, 3.0 miles), Matt Lawrence (3rd, 17:36), Erick Barraza (4th, 17:41), Antonio Lubanski (5th, 17:45) and Dan Allen (6th, 18:00).

Girls cross country
Minooka wins -- The Indians had 25 first-place points. Plainfield North was second with 43 and Oswego took third with 65.

Top runners for Minooka included Rachael Williams (2nd, 19:28, 3.0 miles), Maggie Raynor (4th, 19:53), Rachel Morman (5th, 20:16), Kaitlyn Hoy (6th, 20:23), Lizz Celmer (8th, 20:42), Maddie Simon (10th, 21:19) and Nicole Johnson (14th, 21:57).

Junior high baseball
IESA Class 3A Richland Regional -- Troy defeated J.J. Lukancic 10-0. Quinn Ahern pitched a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts in 5 innings. He walked 1. Brock Pluth doubled twice for the Trojans (7-5). Isaac Taylor and Ryan Peter had 3 RBIs.
