Plainfield C. completes 14-0 SPC run

PLAINFIELD -- Plainfield Central High School celebrated Senior Day with a 10-0, 5-inning victory over Oswego East on Thursday.

Julia Fink (10-1) threw a 2-hit shutout for Plainfield (25-2, 14-0). She had 3 strikeouts in the Southwest Prairie Conference victory.

The victory gave the Wildcats the conference championship for a second straight year. Plainfield has won 30 straight SPC games.

"This was a good team effort on Senior Day," Plainfield coach Anne Campbell said. "This was a nice win and a great way to conclude the conference season."

Taylor Tooley had 2 hits (triple) and 2 RBIs. Brittany Adcox doubled twice, Kati Pasternak had 2 hits and 2 RBIs and Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 2 hits.

Highlights

Lockport 5, Stagg 4 (10 innings) -- At Palos Hills, Brittaney Gonsoulin's grounder was misplayed and that allowed pinch runner Morgan Kramerich to score the winning run. Kramerich ran for Katelyn Braget, who began the rally with a single.

The win clinched a share of the SouthWest Suburban Blue championship for the Porters (25-6, 11-2). Sandburg also finished 11-2.

Rebecca Baltikas, Gonsoulin and Braget had 2 hits.

Alyssa Vorel (8-1) got the win in relief. She pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless ball. She struck out 6, walked none and allowed 3 hits.

"Stagg is a good team and to win like this was fantastic," Lockport coach Marissa Chovanec said. "It was Senior Day for Stagg and to win here is a tribute to our players."

Plainfield South 7, Romeoville 0 -- At Romeoville, Gaby Liberatore and Alyssa Schrader combined on a 2-hitter for the Cougars (22-6, 12-2) in the Southwest Prairie Conference win. Schrader got the win as the two combined for 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Mary Giancarlo singled and homered. Also getting 2 hits were Krista Matsui (double, RBI) and Lauren Walker (dou ble, RBI). Kendall Weber, Melissa Reyes and Jackie Frey (double) drove in runs.

Lincoln-Way East 6, Homewood-Flossmoor 4 -- At Frankfort, Ashley Linhart had 3 hits and Lindsey Thielman added 2 hits and 2 RBIs for the Griffins (16-8, 7-5) in the SouthWest Suburban Red victory. Caitlin Santefort (5-3) got the win.

"This was a great win and tremendous effort by the seniors," East coach Katie Meader said.

Minooka 20, Oswego 1 -- At Oswego, the Indians (15-12-1, 9-5) had no difficulty in their Southwest Prairie Conference finale. Minooka had a 12-run fourth inning.

Taylor Johnson boosted a 17-hit attack with a homer, 2 singles and 6 RBIs. Lyndsay Doyle singled twice, doubled and drove in a run. Stephanie Muirhead homered and drove in 4 runs. Kassie Marsala singled, homered and contributed 4 RBIs. Andrea Carlson singled and doubled.

Kelsey McCarthy and winner Payton Laczynski (1-0) combined on a 1-hitter. They combined for 5 strikeouts and 6 walks.

Andrew 4, Lincoln-Way Central 1 -- At Tinley Park, Brittnie Boerema and Cassie Redman had 2 hits for the Knights (23-7, 9-4) in the SouthWest Suburban Red defeat. Jackie Dugan (11-6) took the loss.
