L-Way E. onslaught too much for H-F
FLOSSMOOR -- The Lincoln-Way East High School baseball team flexed its muscles on Tuesday. A power surge helped the Griffins post a 13-3, 5-inning victory over Homewood-Flossmoor in SouthWest Suburban Red play.
Cody Erikson had 2 hits with a 3-run home run and 5 RBIs for the Griffins (18-7, 7-5). John Lorenz homered, Tom Lilja went 4-for-5 with 2 stolen bases. Lloyd Burchett added 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Nick Santefort and matt Lysik had 2 hits.
Josh Folgers (4-0) picked up the win.
Tom Helwich struck out 7 in a complete-game effort to pick up the win.
Lemont 16, Hillcrest 5 -- At Hillcrest, Lemont (13-14, 8-6) toppled the Hawks in 5 innings in the South Suburban Blue victory. Ben Wagner went 2-for-4 with 2 homers, Pat Driscoll was 2-for-3 with a homer and 3 RBIs and Greg Mrozek went 3-for-4 with a double, homer and 2 RBIs.
Matt Green (6-2) picked up the win for the Indians.
Peotone 11, Beecher 1 -- At the 2A Bishop McNamara Regional, the Blue Devils (16-12) won the first-round game. Brian Hannig (3-2) pitched the win, striking out 7 and allowing 6 hits. Ben Zwolinski was 4-for-5 with a solo homer and 4 RBIs.
The Blue Devils play Bishop McNamara at 4:30 p.m. today in semifinal play.
Wilmington 29, Chicago Longwood 1 -- At the 2A Plano Regional, the Wildcats scored 7 runs in the second inning, 10 in the third and 11 in the fourth. Josh Bailey and Matt Saulters pitched the win.
Coal City 10, Westmont 5 - At Westmont, the Coalers (17-11, 10-5) won the Interstate Eight Conference game. Joe Lardi (3-2) threw a complete game, striking out 5 and allowing only 3 earned runs.
Teammates J.T. Blaine had 3 RBIs, Anthony Hakey scored 3 runs and Kevin Gabehart and Taylor Olson had 2 hits.
Coal City's next game will be Thursday in a Class 2A Ottawa Marquette game.
