Plainfield S. gets by Morris

MORRIS -- Kendall Weber and Gaby Liberatore delivered key RBI doubles for Plainfield South High School during Tuesday's 3-1 win over Morris in Southwest Prairie Conference play. Weber and Liberatore each had 2 hits for the Cougars (21-6, 12-2).

Also adding hits for South, which broke a 1-1 tie with a 2-run fifth, were Jackie Frey, Krista Matsui, Alexis Alvarez and Melissa Reyes.

Winning pitcher Alyssa Schrader went the distance. She allowed 7 hits, struck out 6 and walked none.

Highlights

Lincoln-Way Central 7, Queen of Peace 3 -- In New Lenox, winner Gabe Gavoni (10-1) and Stephanie Rassman combined on a 5-hitter with 9 strikeouts for the Knights (23-6) in the nonconference win. Brittnie Boerema scored 2 runs for the Knights while Jackie Dugan had 4 RBIs with a 3-run home run. Andrew 7, Lincoln-Way East 6 -- At Tinley Park, Nellie Kosola, Lyndsey Slakowski (RBI) and Ashley Linhart had 2 hits for the Griffins (15-8, 6-6) in the SouthWest Suburban Red loss. Bri Lizen drove in a run with a hit. Losing pitcher Jessica Iversen struck out 5 in 5 1/3 innings.

Lemont 16, Hillcrest 0 -- At Lemont, Leah Challenger homered while Kirsten Luevano (3 RBIs), Natalie Murray (RBI) and Monica Strube (2 RBIs) doubled for the Indians (17-8, 11-4) in the South Suburban Blue victory. Hayley Bridwell had 2 hits and drove in a run. Regan Menconi (1-0) pitched the win.

Gardner-South Wilmington 29, Luther East 0 -- A t the 1A Gardner-South Wilmington Regional, the Panthers rolled over regional opponent Luther East in 5 innings. Amber Eisha (19-7) got the win striking out 10, surrendering 1 walk.

Ashley Bozue, Kirsten Bexson and Julie Pfeifer combined to go 9-for-12 with 13 RBIs and pair of home runs.

The Panthers will face the winner of Morgan Park Academy and Illinois Lutheran.
