Providence volleyball rebounds, takes down Plainfield S.

NEW LENOX -- The Providence Catholic High School boys volleyball rebounded Tuesday after suffering its first defeat the night before.

The Celtics topped Plainfield South 25-15, 25-10 in nonconference play. On Monday, Providence (24-1) fell to Wheaton St. Francis in three games.

Jonathan Gustafson had 16 assists, 7 points, 3 blocks and 2 kills for Providence. Eric Daliege had 6 kills, 3 blocks, 4 aces and 11 points while Ryan Surico had 7 digs, 2 kills, 7 points and 2 aces. Dan Ruzich posted 6 kills, 10 digs and 4 points and Joey Swinek had 8 points.

"We did a good job of serving and passing," Providence coach Cindy Olczyk said. "Surico and Swintek gave us some good serves. Ruzich and Surico played solid defense while Gustafson got the ball to our middles tonight."

Boys volleyball

Minooka 25-25, Oswego East 16-12 -- At Oswego, Robert Krumlinde had 8 kills and Matt Phillips finished with 5 kills, 6 blocks and 4 aces as the Indians posted the Southwest Prairie Conference win. Dominic Filardi finished with 8 assists. Matt Omatto had 4 digs.

Other scores -- Oak Forest 25-25, Lemont 10-20.

Girls soccer

Romeoville 8, Thornwood 0 -- At Romeoville, Krissy Kinder scored 3 goals in the Class AA Providence Catholic Regional play-in game.

Neuqua Valley 7, Plainfield South 1 -- Emily Tarlini made 17 saves for South (5-14-0) in the nonconference loss. The game was shortened due to lightning.

Golf

Senior Tour Event No. 2 -- Ron Van Dyke, Dave Krakar, Dan Hischier and Blase Markun won the 1 gross/1 net ball with a 143. They each earned a $70 gift certificate. Michael Hennessy, Jerry Mulcahy, Jerry Carr and Bob Trizna took second with a 145. They won $40 gift certificates.

Larry Warren, Bill Hartley, Vaughn Whitfield and Larry Tallarita were third with a 145. They won $25 gift certificates.

Shorewood's Bill Adelmann was second (32:32.5), Plainfield's Chad Turner third (33:03.1), Joliet's Derek Hackney sixth (37:26.2), Joliet's Scott Pekol seventh (40:55.3), Joliet's Bryan Peetoom 10th (41:12), Morris' Christopher Kozak 11th (42:32.3) and Joliet's Ryan Las 12th (43:38).
