Ferry throws a winner for Lemont

LEMONT -- Lemont High School freshman pitcher Josh Ferry threw like a seasoned senior on Monday.

The 6-foot-1, 154-pound Ferry, a right-hander, threw a 4-hitter and struck out 4, helping the Indians to a 3-2 nonconference baseball win over Hinsdale South.

Ferry (3-3) walked just 1.

"Josh pithched a nice game," Lemont coach Joe Rodeghero said. "He's throwing about 83-84 right now, and that will go up as he gets older.

"He pitched very well against a good-hitting team. He showed a lot of poise."

The Indians (12-12) scored their runs in the fifth inning. Greg Mrozek delivered a 2-run double and Ed Salinas drove in Mrozek with the game-winning run.

Salinas had 2 hits.

Highlights

Providence Catholic 12, Bishop McNamara 1 (5 innings) -- At New Lenox, Phil Ganser paced the Celtics (17-12-1) to the nonconference win with 3 hits, including a 2-run homer, and 4 RBIs. Chuck Triana had 2 hits (double) and 3 RBIs. Greg Bennett had 2 hits.

Winner Phil Trowbridge (5-5) struck out 6, walked 2 and allowed 4 hits.

Lincoln-Way East 9, Crete-Monee 3 -- At Crete, Tom Lilja belted a 3-run homer for the Griffins (17-7) in the nonconference win. Winning pitcher Drew Wendt (2-0)hit a 2-run homer. Joe Turek had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

Joliet Township 10, Oswego East 0 (6 innings) -- At Joliet, Edgar Silva (5-2) allowed no runs, 2 hits and struck out 6 in 3 innings. Tyler Brown pitched 3 scoreless innings.

Brown had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Zak Horvat and Matt Heizer contributed 2 hits. Doug Bukauskas doubled in 2 runs.

JCA 11, Nazareth Academy 4 -- At LaGrange Park, John Ruettiger (7-0) pitched 6 innings for the win. He allowed 6 hits, struck out 7 and walked 1. Nate Minarich was 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs. He hit a 3-run homer. Brian Budzinski was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. He doubled and tripled. Mike Nelson had 3 hits and an RBI. Joe Cernugel contributed 2 hits.

Lincoln-Way Central 5, T.F. South 3 -- At Lansing, Nate Dobrez singled, doubled and drove in a run for the Knights (8-15) in the nonconference victory. Kevin Kojs added 2 hits.

Lincoln-Way Central pitcher Rick Tilquist pitched 6 innings, allowing no earned runs, scattering 7 hits and striking out 5.

Glenbard East 4, Plainfield North 3 -- At Lombard, Andrew Starks had a single and 3 walks for North (17-9) in the nonconfernece loss. Andre Pace had a sacrifice fly. Tigers pitcher Brett Evak (2-1) pitched all 6 innings. He allowed 1 earned run.

Reed-Custer 2, Seneca 1 -- At Braidwood, the Comets (17-15) scored 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the nonconference game. Chase Fisher had the game-winning RBI single.

Reed-Custer senior left-hander Andrew Molloy (4-5) went the distance. He struck out 4, walked 3 and allowed 4 hits.

Peotone 6, Wilmington 2 -- At Wilmington, Neil Ruzich had 2 hits for Wilmington.
