Lewis men's volleyball team sweeps Quincy


April 5, 2008

ROMEOVILLE -- Senior Jared Dayton notched 11 kills Friday to lead the No. 15 Lewis University men's volleyball team to a 30-20, 30-22, 30-27 win over Quincy.

Junior Billy Sahagian added 9 kills, 4 block assists and 3 aces. Junior Drew Pickering had 7 kills and 6 digs. Mike Iandolo recorded 40 assists, 6 digs and 3 block assists for the Flyers (19-7, 6-3).

Boys water polo
Homewood-Flossmoor 9, Lockport 7 -- At Flossmoor, Scott Targosz had 2 goals and 2 assists for the Porters. Pat Cavanaugh and Ben Bentley also tallied 2 goals. Ryan Oldendorf scored a goal and Larry Formosa made 9 saves. Bob Chavez tallied 2 saves.

Other scores -- Lincoln-Way East 20, Lincoln-Way Central 10.

Girls water polo
Homewood-Flossmoor 10, Lockport 6.
Girls badminton
Stagg 11, Plainfield South 4 -- At Joliet, Jessica Brown, Candace Hausmann and Julie Battcher posted singles wins for the Cougars (1-7). Brown and Battcher won in doubles.
Bowling
826 series -- At Pioneer Lanes, Plainfield's Greg Bollinger rolled games of 279, 268 and 279 for an 826 series in the Friday Nite Men's League. He averages 226.
Semi-pro football
Buccaneers tryout -- The Bolingbrook Buccaneers semi-pro football team has scheduled a tryout for Sunday afternoon at Robert Briese Park, Ingalls Avenue and Infantry Drive, Joliet.

Registration begins at noon, with the tryout from 1-3 p.m. Call team president Michael Ingram at (815) 436-6705 for information.

The Buccaneers won the Eastern Conference title in the Mid-States Football League last season. The open the regular season July 26 at Racine, Wis., then have home games at Memorial Stadium on Aug. 2 against Lafayette and Aug. 9 against Leyden.
