Smith, 'Brook run over Bradley

September 15, 2007

BOURBONNAIS -- The Bolingbrook High School offense came out on a mission Friday night and rolled to a 47-0 SouthWest Suburban Conference crossover win over Bradley-Bourbonnais.

Senior running back Erik Smith led the charge by gaining 227 yards on 15 carries and scoring a career-high 4 touchdowns.

"Honestly we came in here as an offense and decided we had to set a tone tonight," Smith said. "The offensive line blocked well for me and I was able to slip through and break a few runs."

The Raiders (3-1, 2-0) took a 28-0 halftime lead sparked by Smith's first-half scoring runs of 9, 18 and 29 yards.

A 17-yard pass from quarterback Shadonta Travis to Kwame Harris finished the Bolingbrook scoring barrage in the first half.

Smith saved his best for last as he broke through for a 65-yard scoring run with 7:51 left to play in the third quarter. With nothing left to gain, Bolingbrook coach John Ivlow rested Smith for the rest of the game.

"Erik started a little slow but then he got in his groove and did a nice job," Ivlow said. "The offensive line is getting better every week and did another nice job tonight."

Bolingbrook capped the scoring on touchdown runs of 53 and 27 yards from sophomore Jamel Martin who is the younger brother of former Raiders standout Dale Martin.

Bradley-Bourbonnais fell to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.

The Raiders' defense forced four turnovers in registering its first shutout of the season.

"Our defense was great again. They put us in good field position all night and then the offense took it to the max," said Smith.

Travis was 6-of-14 for 100 yards with a touchdown and 2 interceptions for Bolingbrook.

"Our defense has only allowed two touchdowns all season," said Ivlow. "We thought the offense would be ahead of our defense but in a lot of respects it's been the other way. The defense has come to play."
