Plainfield North wins Yorkville title

YORKVILLE -- The Plainfield North High School volleyball team breezed to the Yorkville Tournament championship on Saturday.

"We won all the matches in two games and help them all to under 18 points," North coach Kerri McCastland said. "We won the tournament in Southwest Suburban Conference championship form."

Kylee Baker had 29 kills, 12 digs, 43 points and 18 aces for the Tigers (11-1). Amber DeWeerdt had 32 kills, 23 digs, 4 blocks and 19 points, Jessica Guerrieri had 19 kills, 8 digs and 31 points and Kiersten O'Leary finished with 10 kills, 85 assists, 17 digs, 8 ace and 28 points. Sarah Scott registered 17 kills and, 9 blocks and 19 points.

High school highlights
Lockport 2-1 -- At the Lyons Township quad, Lockport beat Lyons 25-19, 15-25, 25-14 and downed Richards 18-25, 25-20, 25-10 and it lost to new Trier 25-25, 26-24.

For Lockport, Brigid O'Brien had 22 kills, 36 points, 51 good serve-receives. Caitlin Ballweber finished with 19 kills, Sarah Olszta registered 5 aces and 33 points.

Wilmington wins -- At the Seneca Tournament, the Wildcats (11-2) beat Seneca 25-23, 25-21 in the championship match.

For Wilmington, Carly Florian had 11 kills and 6 points. Ashley Richards finished with 26 assists. Joelle Lusson had 6 kills while Amanda Chamberlin and Karissa Koesling had 5 kills. Gina Mancuso had 6 digs.

"The girls played a terrific tournament," Wilmington coach Dan Drye said. "Joelle Lusson had three straight kills in the final game."

Seneca's Emily Kaufmann had 7 kills, 6 points and 6 assists. Janelle Maierhofer finished with 11 assists and Mattie Watts had 9 digs and 3 kills.

Reed-Custer placed third at Seneca with a 3-2 record. The Comets (6-3) defeated Westmont 25-23, 25-21 in the third-place match.

Plainfield South splits -- At the DeKalb Tournament, the Cougars (4-3) went 2-2 in the tournament. South defeated Hinckley-Big Rock 25-21, 21-25, 25-22 and East Aurora 25-4, 25-9 and lost to West Carroll 25-22, 25-18 and Hampshire 25-15, 25-15.

Meghan Ross had 14 kills, 24 digs and 39 points for South. Paige Boivin had 9 kills, 23 digs and 41 points. Natalie Clapp put up 28 assists.

Dwight splits -- At the Pontiac Tournament, the Trojans (4-4) opened with a 25-19, 25-21 loss to Pontiac before beating LaSalle-Peru 27-25, 25-23. Dwight lost 26-24, 22-25, 27-25 to Morris and beat Herscher 25-18, 25-10.

College highlights
Lewis 30-30-30, St. Joe's (Ind.) 24-23-14 -- At Romeoville, the victory was the Flyers' first Great Lakes Valley Conference win for the Flyers (9-1, 1-0). The Flyers held a dominating .242-.007 edge in hitting percentage. Lewis finished the match with a .371 to -.091 hitting percentage in the third game. Senior Andrea Morrone recorded a season-high in kills (10) and assisted blocks (5). She also added 37 assists, 8 digs and one service ace. Morrone finished with a .769 hitting percentage.

The Pumas' Sara Cramer had team-highs in kills (10) and digs (15). Lockport native Robyn Bozych added 21 assists, 12 digs and 4 kills.

Indianapolis 30-30-21-30, Lewis 26-28-30-24 -- At Romeoville, the Flyers (9-2, 1-1) had their nine-match winning streak snapped by the Greyhounds (10-1, 2-0). Stephanie Sagat had 18 kills and 20 digs. Andrea Morrone had 40 assists, 16 digs and 7 kills.

JJC 2nd -- At the South Suburban Tournament, the Wolves (9-5) posted a 4-1 tournaament run and received an all-tournament performance from sophomore veteran Kim King.

The Bolingbrook High School graduate totaled 76 digs, 41 kills and 11 aces. Her work helped JJC defeat Sauk Valley 30-22, 23-30, 15-6, Morton 30-19, 30-10, South Suburban 30-17, 30-20, and Wade (Mich.) 30-18, 30-19. The lone loss was a 24-30, 30-22, 15-11 title decision against Black Hawk.

Brittany Engleman had 100 assists, 42 digs and 14 kills. Katie Liberatore recorded 45 digs, 35 kills and 14 aces.
