For Plainfield N., it's a Schurz thing
LEMONT -- Scott Vachon scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Plainfield North registered a 76-50 victory over Chicago Schurz Wednesday at the Lemont Thanksgiving Tournament.
"We played a much better game," Plainfield North coach Nick DiForti said. "Overall, we are young and inexperienced, but we are starting to see people showing up and understanding their roles."
The Tigers (2-1) held an 18-10 lead after the first quarter. That lead grew to 33-20 at half-time and would have been larger if not for a number of turnovers late in the second quarter.
The Bulldogs' defense was effective in the early going, but, as the game went on, North's passing dissected the Shurz zone. "They dictated a lot of how we played when they sat in a zone, but we picked up the pressure and forced them to turn over the ball. We also picked up the intensity on offense," DiForti said.
Ben Daniel led the Tigers with 22 points, and Jack Krieger added 8 points and 6 assists.
"Ben stepped up big offensively, and Krieger gives us an added dimension on offense," DiForti said.
Sandburg won the tournament with a 3-0 mark after defeating Lemont in the final game. Vachon and Daniel were selected to the all-tournament team.
