Briefs: Malak sisters have MGM Grand time

November 3, 2009

LAS VEGAS -- Two Lemont sisters, 14-year-old Lanaea Malak and her 10-year-old sister Breanna, recently placed in the Toyota Arenacross Nation Championships at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Lanaea Malak finished third among 20 competitors in the girls class and also was in the women's class, where she placed fifth among 20 riders. Breanna was 14th in the girls class even though she was the youngest competitor by two years. They qualified in earlier competition to participate at the nationals.

AMA Arenacross is a compact style of motocross that plays in arena-size venues -- aka arenacross. The bar-to-bar racing tends to send riders flying off the track and into the protective lane barriers, only to have them re-mount and quickly get back into the hunt.

Lanaea and Breanna Malak are proving to be masters of the craft at a young age.

When he was at Lockport, he won the 112-pound Class AA state championship in 2004. His little brother, Jameson, won the state 3A title at 119 last year.

Krisch was named the MSFA/Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after rushing for 200 yards on 32 carries and scoring three touchdowns on a soggy and muddy field in Forest City, Iowa. Tondini led the Saints with six solo tackles, which included a tackle-for-loss, and spearheaded a USF defense that posted its first shutout since a 2008 season-opening 21-0 win over Valparaiso (Ind.).

The Saints (3-6, 2-3) travel to Quincy (2-7, 1-4) for an MSFA/Midwest League game on Saturday. Kickoff is at noon.
