Bahena gives LWC boot

October 28, 2009

FLOSSMOOR -- Lincoln-Way Central coach Dan Radz could only shake his head after watching his team fall 4-0 to Eisenhower in Tuesday night's Class 3A Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional semifinal, but it wasn't because the Knights had lost.

"I just can't believe this team (Eisenhower) has actually lost four times," Radz said of the Cardinals, who improved to 15-4-3.

Eisenhower will face Brother Rice, a 2-0 winner over Sandburg in Tuesday's other semifinal, for the sectional championship at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Tuesday's win marks the first time the Cardinals have advanced to a sectional title match since 1994, when they also squared off against Brother Rice.

Eisenhower was led by a two-goal effort from Joey Bahena.

"We really ran into a buzz saw," said Radz, whose team closed at 12-9-3. "Their speed is just phenomenal, and offensively, they're one of the best teams we've seen this year. They've got a great chance to go a long way and have a lot of success. Take your hats off to them."
