PFN runs past district rival PFE

October 24, 2009

PLAINFIELD -- The Plainfield North High School football team completed its regular season with an impressive 43-0 Southwest Prairie Conference win over neighborhood District 202 rival Plainfield East Friday night.

The Tigers, which improved their record to a best ever 7-2, were 5-2 in conference play.

While the seven victories have earned them a spot in the playoffs, they will anxiously await the pairings which will be announced tonight at 7 p.m.

"This is exciting for the kids," said Plainfield North Head Coach Tim Kane. "This is the first time in the playoffs for our school, and now we have to wait and see who we play and where."

The youthful Bengals had the advantage of receiving the opening kickoff as well as the kick to start the second half. While East had some success on its first possession, the Bengals quickly found that it was going to be difficult to move the ball against a stingy Plainfield North defense.

The Tigers, which scored on six of their seven possessions and did not punt the entire game, rolled up 404 yards of offense, all on the ground.

Their first scoring drive covered 69 yards and was capped when Kapri Bibbs scored form 42 yards out with 5:09 remaining in the first quarter.

After the Tigers limited East to a three and out, they took just three plays to score again. Devonta Davis carried the ball three consecutive times, and broke free for a 60 yard touchdown run with 1:38 to play in the first period.

Bibbs added two more scores on runs of 3 and 6 yards, and the Tigers built a 30-0 lead at half-time.

That lead enabled Kane the luxury of getting everyone into the act.

"We got them all in and they got to make some significant contributions," he said. "I told our players that are here everyday working hard in practice, that even though they don't get to see their name in the paper every week, they are still a big part of the success of the team."

A great example was junior running back J.T. Moore. He turned out to be the leading rusher for the game with 17 carries for 145 yards.

Bibbs added 124 yards on 14 carries while Davis carried 9 time for 124 yards. A total of nine different players carried the ball for the Tigers.

Goffinet completed 7-of -15 passes for 73 yards for the Bengals, but East had a difficult time running the ball against the Tigers, rushing 26 times for minus-2 yards.

Whiile North will be looking forward to the play-offs, the Bengals will be able to look forward to next season knowing that they completed their initial season with a win under their belt, and will have everyone back next year.
