Geever's 3 TDs lead 'Brook

October 17, 2009

ORLAND PARK -- Brad Geever threw for 3 touchdowns in the game, including one in the fourth quarter, as Bolingbrook rallied to remain in a first place tie in the SouthWest Suburban Blue with a 26-13 victory over Sandburg on Friday night in Orland Park.

Geever fired a 28-yard TD pass to freshman wide receiver Aaron Bailey with 5:38 to play and then Geever dove to the left for the two-point conversion run to put the Raiders (7-1, 5-1) ahead for good at 20-13.

"We've practiced those throws and Brad threw a perfect ball to the outside where only I could catch it," Bailey said. "The team came back with energy and my teammates supported me."

Bailey also caught a 38-yard touchdown pass on Bolingbrook's first play from scrimmage in the game. It was the second straight week he had a pair of TD receptions. Geever finished 13-of-22 for 212 yards and also had a 46-yard TD pass to Chris Williams after a scramble on a third-and-17 play on the second quarter.

Sandburg (5-3, 3-3) was stopped for a yard gain on a fourth and one play by Chris Adjepong at its own 36 with 4:14 to play. Jamel Martin (19 carries-82 yards) capped the scoring on a 26-yard run with 2:31 remaining.

"We knew what was coming," Adjepong said. "In a short yardage situation I'm the safety that steps up and I made a big hit.

"This was a big win. We had got a little cocky after beating Lincoln-Way East. But at halftime we got humbled. Coach (John Ivlow) gave a good speech and we knew we had to win it."

Adjepong also came up big with a blocked field goal in the third quarter. It was one of two blocks by the 'Brook defense as Maurice Armstead had the other.

The Eagles took 13-12 lead on a 42-yard field goal by Taylor Zalewski with 25 seconds left in the third quarter. Zalewski, who earlier had a pair of field goals blocked in the period, also hit from 43 in the first quarter. Phillip Musa also connected with Lawrence Oliver for a 17-yard TD to bring Sandburg within 12-10 at halftime.

Bolingbrook lost four fumbles and had six in the game. But Armstead had a big interception in the end zone with 11;47 to play in the game to set up the Raiders game-winning 80-yard drive.

"Special teams played a big part," Ivlow said. "We're getting a few kids back healthy and we're ready to take a crack at it."
