Plainfield N. takes its fifth behind Bibbs

October 10, 2009

PLAINFIELD -- Kapri Bibbs scored 4 touchdowns and rushed 26 times for 244 yards as Plainfield North High School (5-2, 3-2) defeated Oswego East 41-6 Friday night in Southwest Prairie Conference play.

The Tigers assured themselves of their first winning regular season.

"It is good to get over that hump," said Plainfield North coach Tim Kane, referring to the fifth win.

The Tigers took the opening kick and behind the running back tandem of Bibbs and Devonta Davis, had little trouble moving the ball through the Wolves' (0-6,0-4) defense. North overcame two penalties as it put together a 12 play, 81-yard scoring drive. Bibbs tallied his first touchdown on a 20 yard run with 6:37 to play in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead.

A fired up Tiger defense set the tone on the visitor's first offensive series First, they tackled Steven Henderson for a two yard loss. They followed that by sacking quarterback Tyler Clark for a loss of six yards. And after an incomplete pass by Clark, the Wolves were forced to punt.

"We were physical on both sides of the ball, and our defense played extremely well," said Kane.

The Tigers defense limited the Wolves to just 16 yards of offense in the first half.

North scored on its first four possessions of the game. The second scoring drive covered 73 yard in 19 plays. With North facing a fourth and six at the Oswego East 37, Davis took a direct snap in punt formation and kept the drive alive with an 8 yard gain. The Tigers again converted a fourth and 6 situation when Bibbs gained nine yards courtesy of a big block from Kyle Ryan to advance the ball to the 16 yard line. Four plays later, Davis scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 1 yard run.

Adding to the blocking power of the offensive line, Ryan, Matt Myers and Arlander Wade each lined up in the backfield to help open holes for Bibbs.

Davis followed his touchdown run with another score just two plays later. He stepped in front of a Tyler Clark pass and returned the interception 35 yards for a quick score that lifted the Tigers to a 20-0 lead with 9:01 remaining in the first half.

"That interception was a big boost and gave us a lot of momentum," said Kane.

Bibbs added touchdown runs of 55, 25 and 13 yards. His final touchdown of the game came with 3:36 remaining in the third quarter and lifted North to a 41-0 lead, and a running clock.
