All-Area First Team

June 20, 2009

First Team

STEPHANIE BARR Plainfield N., junior, midfielder
Highlights: Barr scored 11 goals and dished out 18 assists, helping the Tigers capture the Southwest Prairie Conference championship and rip off a string of 16 straight victories. She earned all-conference and all-sectional honors. She also was named the conference's MVP.

Coach Jane Crowe said: "Steph was our leader in the middle of the field. She was the key to our attack and was also a strong defensive presence at center-midfield."

KATIE CONDON Joliet Catholic, senior, midfielder
Highlights: Condon scored 20 goals and had eight assists, leading the Angels to a three-way tie for the East Suburban Catholic Conference title and an 18-3 record. JCA won its first regional championship and made its first sectional appearance. The Angels were ousted from postseason play by Lemont (2-1). Condon capped a four-year varsity career with 40 goals and 16 assists. She will play next year at Western Illinois.

Coach Oscar Valdez: "(Katie) controlled the flow from the center and demonstrated that she too can generate scoring from outside the 18-yard line. (She) utilized her height and jumping ability to convert several corner (kicks) and direct restarts into goals."

TAMMY CONTORNO Lemont, senior, midfielder
Highlights: Contorno scored 15 goals and dished out 12 assists. She served as a co-captain on an Indians' squad that posted a 21-6 record and placed second in the 2A state tournament. The Indians won conference, regional, sectional and supersectional titles. She was named the South Suburban Blue Player of the Year. Contorno will play next year at Saint Xavier University.

Coach Rick Prangen said: "As a central midfielder, Tammy possesses an excellent work rate, is very strong on the ball and is very good in the air. Because she has good pace, she is able to be a very good attacking option in the final third of the field. She is able to play box-to-box and is two-footed. She can shoot, crosses the ball well and takes most of the team's set pieces."

KATIE COX Plainfield N., soph., forward
Highlights: Cox led the Tigers with a team-high 16 goals and 12 assists. She was a first-team all-conference and all-sectional selection. She also had a hand in helping the Tigers beat two rivals for the first time -- Plainfield Central and Naperville Central.

Coach Jane Crowe said: "Katie had multiple game-winning goals and always seemed to come through in the clutch. She was a tough player to defend and was dangerous with both her speed and her ability in the air."

KRISSY DORRE Joliet Twp., junior, midfielder
Highlights: Dorre made a seamless move from stopper to midfield. She scored an area-high 37 goals and dished out eight assists. She earned all-conference, all-sectional and all-state honors in voting of the IHSSCA. She also was named to the all-tournament team at Winnebago.

Coach Jeff Lundeen said: "Krissy is in her junior year and she continues to play at a level above the rest. Beyond her superior skill, unselfish play and impressive statistics, she is one of those unique and exciting players everyone loves to sit back and watch to see what she is going to do next."

MARIAH GRASHOFF Joliet Catholic, senior, forward
Highlights: Grashoff was the top scorer (31 goals, 13 assists) on an Angels team that cracked through with first-time victories over St. Viator and Benet. She was one of six JCA players named to the East Suburban Catholic all-conference team. She finished with career totals of 59 goals and 30 assists.

Coach Oscar Valdez said: "Textbook forward with a nose for the net. Mariah will do whatever it takes to get the ball into the net. She generated six three-goal games en route to her team-leading 31 goals. Like Colleen (Budd), Mariah drew a lot of double-coverage that opened up others for scoring opportunities."

MORGAN GRAVES Joliet Twp., sophomore, sweeper
Highlights: Graves took over JT's sweeper role and turned into an enforcer on the defensive end. To get to JT's goal, opponents had to go through her and that rarely happened in a 17-8 season. She earned all-conference and all-sectional honors in her second season as a varsity regular.

Coach Jeff Lundeen said: "Morgan continues to be one of the most dominant players on the field. Her strengths are in her explosive short speed, physical size/strength and technical ability."

SHELLEY HADLOCK Lemont, senior, forward
Highlights: Hadlock was the Indians' top goal-scorer and one of their most complete offensive players. She finished a sparkling four-year varsity run with 21 goals and 13 assists. A big senior season pushed her career totals to 78 goals and 52 assists. Hadlock will play next year at Lewis.

Coach Rick Prangen said: "She can play on either flank or in the center as a target. She has very good pace and can be physically dominating. She is very good with the ball, has a very good first touch and is two-footed. Because of her physical strength, she has the capability of taking over a game. As her stats show, Shelly is not only a goal-scorer but takes great pride and satisfaction in assisting her teammates in scoring goals."

BRIGID HANLEY Plainfield C., freshman, F/M
Highlights: Hanley scored 17 goals and chipped in three assists, earning her second varsity letter of the school year after playing basketball. Hanley served notice of her skill in another arena in January. She scored a district-tying 35 points on 14-of-23 shooting in Plainfield Central's 56-53 girls basketball loss to JCA.

Coach Jen Tomczak said: "Not a flashy player in the middle or up top, but very good at reading the play off the ball and able to set other players up for great opportunities. Aggressive play and smart tactical decisions make her a player to watch in the future."

SAMM NEILL Lincoln-Way C., junior, M/sweeper
Highlights: Neill scored eight goals and was credited with six assists in her second season playing on the varsity ranks with the Knights. She was a first team all-conference and all-sectional selection. She played club ball -- Windy City Pride -- during her freshman year in high school.

Coach Dan Radz said: "Samm has a tremendous touch. (Her) work rate is at a high. She works well to get herself in the box to score goals. She is a pin-point passer through gaps to forwards. When players were injured midway through the season, Samm had to move to sweeper."

JENNA PROCTOR Lincoln-Way C., soph., defender
Highlights: Proctor's job was to mark top opponent strikers and she proved up to the challenge in games against Naperville North, Neuqua Valley, Downers Grove South and Hinsdale Central. Her big stat was the goose-egg on the scoreboard next to the goal count for Knight foes. She earned first-team all-conference and all-sectional honors. Proctor plays in the offseason with the Windy City Pride.

Coach Dan Radz said: "She's a tall girl for her age. She reads a first touch quite well and tracks rather nicely with her mark. She's quiet, but gets the job done. Jenna is one of the top defenders in the area."

MARY KATE REED Providence, senior, midfielder
Highlights: Reed scored four goals and chipped in 13 assists. The four-year starter for the Celtics earned all-conference, all-sectional and all-state honors in voting of the IHSSCA. She also earned praise from her coaches and teammates. Reed will play next season at Purdue.

Coach Dan Potempa said: "Mary Kate is a workhorse for the Celtics soccer team. She is the one that I turn to when I need something done. Wherever she plays, I just know that the job will get done. She has been an integral part of our success and will be dearly missed."

ERIN STAHURSKI Lemont, senior, goalkeeper
Highlights: Stahurski registered 12 shutouts in 23 games, including a 1-0 victory over Chatham Glenwood in the 2A state semifinals. She made four saves in that game and finished with 104 saves on the year. Her goals-against average was .826. In four years as a regular in the nets for the Indians, she notched 58 shutouts. Stahurski has offers to play next year at Saint Xavier and Saint Francis.

Coach Rick Prangen said: "Erin's height, quickness and soft hands have allowed her to become an excellent goalkeeper. I would say Erin is one of the top five goalkeepers I have seen over the past four years. Erin has continued to improve and last year was a main reason why Lemont won its first sectional championship and eventually lost to H-F in PKs in the supersectional."

BAILEY WYSOCKI Plainfield C., soph., midfielder
Highlights: Wysocki led all scorers in the Southwest Prairie Conference with 28 goals. She also picked up nine assists. She earned all-conference and all-sectional honors. And she ran for the Wildcats' girls track and field team in her spare time.

Coach Jen Tomczak said: "Athleticism that is hard to match. Her speed off the ball and her powerful shot are difficult to contain."
