Celtics have big weekend
NEW LENOX -- Edwin Cooper (112), Cody Klaver (125) and Brett Phillips (140) notched pins as the Providence Catholic High School wrestling team rolled to a 49-10 victory over Plainfield North on Saturday.
The Celtics also bopped Fenwick 52-15 as Cooper, Tom Ambrose (119), Jeremy Crnich (135) and Jake Sheffer (215) scored falls.
The two victories for Providence followed on the heels of the Celtics' thrilling 29-21 victory over Minooka on Friday night at Minooka.
The two teams split 14 matches -- each winning 7.
The Celtics gained the upperhand in large part because of pins by Cooper (112) and Joe Michaels (189).
Jake Wojcik (130), Crnich (135), Phillips (140), Kyle Haney (160) and Ed Klimara (103) also notched wins for Providence.
Minooka picked up wins from Kalvin Hill (145), Mitch Brozovich (152), Brandon Haase (215), Cody Jones (285), Joeie Ruettiger (119) and Blake Montella (125).
Winning individual championships for Lockport were Jameson Oster (119), Abe Omar (125), Kevin Bialka (152), Brad Johnson (189), Alex Rodriguez (215) and Mike Tetlow (285).
Tony Tonelli (130) was second. Matt Weber (140) finished third while Mark Stenberg (171) was fourth. Emeric Williams (103) and Shaun'Qae McMurtry (145) were fifth. Brandon Golob (135) was eighth.
Winning three matches for the Wildcats were Nathan Davis (103), Steven Bradtmueller (119), Lucas Plese, Kyle Schomer (135), Dan Deufel (171) and Lavelle Howard (285), who had two pins. Plese also had two pins.
Taking two victories included Terry Kubski (112), Kyle Ledbetter (130), Eric Oyster (145), Josh Toton (152) and Nicoli Trevino (215).
Morris goes 2-1 -- Seth Bonic (119/125) won three matches by fall and powered Morris to a 2-1 record in the Downers Grove North Quad. The Redskins dropped a 51-15 decision to Downers Grove North but rebounded to defeat Rochelle (47-28) and Champaign Central (48-30).
Bonic pinned Downers Grove North's Jimmy Neuhls in 23 seconds, Rochelle's Geoff Huntley in 2:42 and Champaign Central's Blake Allen-Davis in 1:00.
Darle Barry (160) and Aaron Odom (285) also won three matches for Morris.
Other scores -- Lincoln-Way East beat Oswego 42-30; Peotone beat Westville 36-19 and lost to Gibson City 51-12.
